Derek Carr passed for 219 yards and a touchdown before being injured and the New Orleans Saints defeated the reeling New York Giants 14-11 on Sunday afternoon in East Rutherford, N.J.

Carr completed 20 of 31 passes, but left the game late in the fourth quarter after apparently injuring his left arm while being tackled.

The Saints (5-8) secured the victory when Bryan Bresee blocked Graham Gano's 35-yard field-goal attempt with eight seconds left.

Drew Lock completed 21 of 49 passes for 227 yards for the NFC-worst Giants (2-11), who lost their eighth consecutive game. New York was penalized 12 times for 112 yards and penalties negated a touchdown and a field goal.

The Saints' first possession of the second half ended with Carr being intercepted by Tre Hawkins III at the Giants 17, which was just New York's second interception of the season and first since Week 1. But New Orleans' second possession ended with Carr's 11-yard touchdown pass to Juwan Johnson that gave the Saints a 14-3 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Giants missed an opportunity to make it a one-score game when an unnecessary roughness penalty negated Gano's 48-yard field goal.

Tyrone Tracy Jr.'s 1-yard touchdown run and Lock's 2-point conversion pass to Malik Nabers trimmed the lead to 14-11 with 4:11 remaining.

On the second play of the ensuing possession, Carr ran for 9 yards but suffered an apparent arm injury while being tackled and left the game for good.

Lock drove the Giants to the New Orleans 12, but they stalled and Bresee tipped Gano's kick.

On New Orleans' third possession it drove 98 yards in nine plays, the last of which was Kendre Miller's 8-yard touchdown run that provided a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Gano kicked a 43-yard field goal to pull the Giants within 7-3. The score stayed that way at halftime after New York had a punt return for a touchdown negated by a penalty, and Blake Grupe's 60-yard field goal attempt for New Orleans was blocked as time expired in the second quarter.
