Deebo Samuel made a 54-yard touchdown reception and also rushed for a score as the San Francisco 49ers defeated the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks 28-16 Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara, Calif.
Christian McCaffrey rushed 16 times for 145 yards for the 49ers (10-3), who won their fifth consecutive game. Brock Purdy was 19-of-27 passing for 368 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.
The Seahawks (6-7), who suffered their fourth loss in a row, played without starting quarterback Geno Smith, who suffered a groin injury in practice Thursday. Drew Lock replaced Smith and was 22 of 31 for 269 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Lock was sacked four times.
Samuel, who collected seven receptions for 149 yards, scored on a 1-yard run with 1:58 left in the third quarter to give the 49ers a 21-10 lead.
Lock hit tight end Colby Parkinson on a 25-yard scoring strike with 24 seconds left in the quarter but Lock was sacked on the two-point conversion attempt, leaving the score at 21-16.
The 49ers needed just three plays to extend their lead, as Purdy threw a 44-yard TD pass to George Kittle with 14:08 remaining.
It appeared the 49ers, who won 31-13 at Seattle on Thanksgiving night, might be on their way to another lopsided victory when McCaffrey took a pitch to the left, cut back down the middle and rushed for 72 yards on the game's first play from scrimmage.
Jordan Mason scored on a 3-yard run on the next play to put San Francisco up 7-0.
The Seahawks answered with a 31-yard scoring strike from Lock to DK Metcalf on their first possession.
Seattle's Jason Myers kicked a 40-yard field goal with 56 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Seahawks a 10-7 lead.
The 49ers scored the only points of the second quarter, on a 54-yard pass from Purdy to Samuel on a third-and-11 play, to give San Francisco a 14-10 advantage at the half.
