Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third on Sunday night as the Philadelphia Eagles pulled away from the visiting Miami Dolphins in the second half for a 31-17 win.
Hurts, who was 23-of-31 passing for 279 yards and an interception, snapped a 17-17 tie with a 14-yard scoring strike to A.J. Brown with 15 seconds left in the third quarter. Brown, who ran through an attempted tackle around the 10-yard line, caught 10 passes for 137 yards.
Philadelphia (6-1) put the game away with a 13-play, 83-yard drive that came after Darius Slay intercepted Tua Tagovailoa at the Eagles 1. Kenneth Gainwell administered the lethal blow with a 3-yard scoring run at the 4:46 mark of the fourth quarter.
Tagovailoa completed 23 of 32 passes for 216 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while Tyreek Hill had 11 catches for 88 yards and a score. But Miami (5-2) was outgained 355-244 and ran into penalty problems, collecting 10 flags for 70 yards. The Eagles weren't penalized.
The Dolphins tied the game at 17 when Jerome Baker picked off Hurts and dashed 22 yards for a touchdown. That provided the only points of the second half for a team that entered Sunday averaging a league-high 37.2 points per game.
In a highly anticipated meeting of high-scoring offenses, it took both teams over a quarter to find something that worked. Philadelphia got a 24-yard field goal from Jake Elliott on its first drive and Miami responded with a 40-yarder from Jason Sanders, seven plays after Hurts was strip-sacked at the Eagles 22.
Philadelphia found the end zone with 11:25 left in the first half when Hurts connected with Dallas Goedert for a 19-yard touchdown, then made it 17-3 on Hurts' 1-yard scoring run at the 3:10 mark of the second quarter.
At that point, the Dolphins finally clicked into gear. Tagovailoa led a 72-yard drive that culminated in his 27-yard TD strike to Hill with 39 seconds remaining, enabling Miami to head to the locker room down by just seven points.
