Philip Rivers threw three touchdown passes, including two to tight end Antonio Gates, as the San Diego Chargers ended a three-game home losing streak with a 37-10 triumph over the struggling Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Ryan Mathews surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark for the third straight game with 114 on 20 carries for San Diego (6-7), which has won two straight following a six-game slide and remained two games behind Denver in the AFC West.
Rivers has thrown for three scores in each of his last two games. He began Sunday with a league-leading 17 interceptions but has gone three straight contests without being picked off.
Rivers, who was 24 of 33 for 240 yards, opened the scoring with a 9-yard TD toss to Gates with less than eight minutes left in the first quarter and capped it with a 26-yard scoring strike to Patrick Crayton with nine minutes remaining in the fourth.
Following Rivers' 2-yard touchdown pass to Gates late in the third that gave the Chargers a 23-10 lead, Steve Gregory picked off Ryan Fitzpatrick on Buffalo's first play after the ensuing kickoff and ran 26 yards for a score.
A miscue by Rivers led to Buffalo's lone touchdown. After dropping back to pass, the quarterback had the ball slip out of his hands and bounce into the end zone, where Bryan Scott recovered it to pull the Bills (5-8) within 16-10 early in the third quarter.
Fitzpatrick completed 13 of 34 passes for 176 yards with two interceptions for Buffalo, which has lost six in a row both overall and on the road.
