Preview Roundups
November 23, 2019
Vancouver at Washington 12:30 PM ET
A date with Nashville on Thursday was exactly what a struggling Canucks power play unit needed as Vancouver tallied five goals on the man advantage and won for just the second time in its last nine games. The Canucks continue their six-game road trip Saturday against the Washington Capitals, who sit atop the NHL standings with 36 points.
Calgary at Philadelphia 1:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames have seen the door close on their once-potent offense after a franchise-worst third consecutive road shutout loss extended the team's winless stretch to six games (0-5-1). The Flames hope the results of a players-only meeting will open the doors to success on Saturday afternoon when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers.
Arizona at Los Angeles 4:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes have elevated into second place in the Pacific due in part to their impressive play against their division rivals. The Coyotes, who boast a 4-1-1 record within the division, aim to defeat the Los Angeles Kings for the second time in six days when they visit the Staples Center on Saturday night.
Toronto at Colorado 7:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs responded to their coaching change in a positive way and try to make it two victories under Sheldon Keefe when they continue their season-high six-game road trip Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche. Toronto snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Arizona on Thursday in Keefe's NHL coaching debut after Mike Babcock was fired following Tuesday's setback to Vegas.
Columbus at Winnipeg 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets have won three games in a row entering Saturday’s contest at the Winnipeg Jets, and a very encouraging sign is forward Cam Atkinson breaking a 10-game goal drought. Atkinson, who scored 41 goals in 2018-19 and has at least 24 in four consecutive seasons, registered his fourth of the campaign on a power play in Thursday’s 5-4 comeback victory over Detroit, and added an assist to give him his first multi-point game in 2019-20.
Minnesota at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins are the lone NHL club that has yet to lose in regulation at home while the Minnesota Wild are the only team in the league with 10 regulation defeats away from home. Judging by those numbers, the Bruins have to like their chances of extending their 12-game point streak at TD Garden when they host the Wild on Saturday night.
NY Rangers at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens hope to get their offense back in gear and put an end to a mini slump when they continue a five-game homestand Saturday night against the New York Rangers. The Canadiens have lost three straight games (0-1-2)  and managed three goals in the past two after dropping a 2-1 overtime decision against Ottawa on Wednesday to open their run at the Bell Centre.
Anaheim at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning were forced to win a big game without two of their superstars last time out and may have to do it again when they host the struggling Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night. Nikita Kucherov missed the contest (upper body) while captain Steven Stamkos (team-best 20 points) aggravated a lower-body injury in the first period of Thursday’s 4-2 victory at Chicago and both are questionable for Saturday.
Detroit at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
Jimmy Howard's struggles are a microcosm of Detroit's season as the Red Wings are mired in another losing streak entering Saturday's game against the host New Jersey Devils. Howard has lost five straight starts with a 5.30 goals-against average and .828 save percentage during that span after a 5-4 setback at Columbus on Thursday - Detroit's fourth in a row - and will likely split duties with Jonathan Bernier during a back-to-back that includes a home game against Carolina on Sunday.
Florida at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers have shown the ability to score themselves out of trouble much of the season, and look to begin winning in more conventional ways Saturday night against the host Carolina Hurricanes. The Panthers gave up the first four goals to Anaheim on Thursday before rallying to score the next five, including defenseman Aaron Ekblad’s winner 22 seconds into overtime for their fifth victory in six games.
Nashville at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators edged Winnipeg and reigning Stanley Cup champion St. Louis by one point to win the Central Division title last season, but they now find themselves struggling to stay out of the basement. Nashville looks to halt a six-game slide (0-5-1) when it visits St. Louis on Saturday night in the front end of a home-and-home series.
Chicago at Dallas 8:00 PM ET
The Dallas Stars have made a stunning turnaround since their dismal 1-7-1 start to the season, following that with a 12-1-1 tear that has them within five points of first-place St. Louis in the Central Division. Dallas is riding a 10-game point streak and vies for its sixth straight win against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.
Edmonton at Vegas 10:00 PM ET
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are piling up goals and points at a league-leading pace but even Edmonton's two-man show is capable of throwing in a clunker once in a while. The dynamic duo will try to bounce back from a combined minus-5 performance when the Oilers continue their five-game road trip through the western United States against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.
NY Islanders at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The New York Islanders try to extend their franchise-record point streak to 18 games as they continue their trek through the Golden State with a contest against the struggling Anaheim Ducks on Monday. New York had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 2-1 overtime loss at San Jose on Saturday, falling to 15-0-2 since losing three of four to start the season.
NY Islanders at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks have collected seven victories in their last eight contests to reach the NHL's version of .500, a strong stretch to be certain but one that pales in comparison to their opponent on Saturday. The Sharks will host the white-hot New York Islanders, whose franchise-best 16-game point streak (15-0-1) has been buoyed by five straight one-goal wins.
