Preview Roundups
November 16, 2019
Carolina at Minnesota 2:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild and Carolina Hurricanes made a deal at last season's trade deadline, a move that worked out decidedly in the latter's favor in helping to break a nine-year postseason drought. Both forwards from that trade -- Minnesota's Victor Rask and Carolina's Nino Niederreiter -- are struggling entering Saturday afternoon's matchup between the visiting Hurricanes and Wild.
Dallas at Edmonton 4:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers bounced back with a vengeance from a ragged performance at San Jose on Tuesday, but the league's most devasting 1-2 punch will have quite an act to follow in Saturday afternoon's matchup against the visiting Dallas Stars. The Oilers made it three wins in four games with a 6-2 drubbing of Colorado on Thursday as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl combined for 11 points.
Calgary at Arizona 4:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes came up short in their bid to complete a perfect three-game road trip, dropping a 3-2 decision at Minnesota on Thursday after posting back-to-back shootout wins at Washington and St. Louis -- the past two Stanley Cup champions. The Coyotes will play three straight and five of their next six at home beginning with Saturday afternoon's matchup against the Calgary Flames.
Winnipeg at Tampa Bay 4:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to follow up a record-setting performance with a season-high fourth consecutive victory when they host the improving Winnipeg Jets on Saturday afternoon. The Lightning matched their franchise record in goals scored and power-play tallies (5-of-8) on Thursday with a 9-3 destruction of the New York Rangers as six players finished with multiple points.
Vegas at Los Angeles 4:00 PM ET
The Vegas Golden Knights have enjoyed a great number of positives during their relatively brief existence in the NHL, most notably advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season. The Golden Knights, however, look to prevent a negative on Saturday as they enter their road contest against the Los Angeles Kings with four straight losses (0-3-1) -- one shy of the franchise record.
Washington at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins snapped a long losing streak in the series in February and look to make it two in a row when they host the Washington Capitals on Saturday in a battle of division leaders. The Capitals had won 14 straight meetings before dropping a 1-0 decision Feb. 3 against Boston, which knocked off Toronto 4-2 on Friday after coughing up a four-goal lead to lose its previous game.
Ottawa at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
There may not be a team in the NHL more in need of a victory than Buffalo after a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime loss Thursday to Carolina pushed the Sabres losing streak to six games. Buffalo will look for its first win in over three weeks on Saturday when it hosts an Ottawa Senators squad on the second night of a back-to-back after securing a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia on Friday.
New Jersey at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The surging Montreal Canadiens try to snap a five-game slide against New Jersey when they return home to face the Devils on Saturday. Montreal improved to 7-1-1 in its last nine games after cooling off Washington 5-2 on Friday behind a goal and three assists from Tomas Tatar (team-most 19 points) and 26 saves by Carey Price as a 4-4-2 start gets smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror.
NY Rangers at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers look to rebound from an embarrassing loss as they finish a two-game trip to the Sunshine State on Saturday night against the Florida Panthers in the second meeting this week. The Rangers lost to the Panthers on Sunday 6-5 in a shootout during a four-game point streak (3-0-1) that came to an abrupt halt Thursday when they allowed four goals in the first 6:42 of a 9-3 thrashing at Tampa Bay.
NY Islanders at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders take a 13-game point streak (12-0-1) into their Metropolitan Division battle with the host Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. New York boasts seven players with at least 10 points after Anthony Beauvillier scored twice and Derick Brassard added a goal and two assists in a 5-4 victory over Toronto on Wednesday.
Toronto at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs are just as close to last place as they are to first in the Atlantic Division and hope to put a halt to their free fall when they open a six-game road trip Saturday night against the injury-plagued Pittsburgh Penguins. The Maple Leafs have dropped four straight games (0-3-1) and allowed 14 goals in the past three after suffering a 4-2 setback against Boston on Friday.
Anaheim at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
After opening the season with six wins in their first seven home games, the Anaheim Ducks suffered a 5-3 loss to San Jose on Thursday that left them with an underwhelming 2-3-2 record on their season-long seven game homestand. The Ducks will look to get back in the win column Saturday as they begin a four-game road trip that starts in St. Louis against the Western Conference-leading and defending Stanley Cup champion Blues.
Chicago at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks have finally discovered an offensive groove, reversing a trend from early in the season when they managed to score more than three goals only once in a span of a dozen games. The Blackhawks have won three of their last four, scoring five goals in each of the wins, and hope to carry the momentum into Saturday night's matchup at the Nashville Predators.
Colorado at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The fast start to the season has slowed to a crawl for the upstart Vancouver Canucks, who answered a blistering 9-1-2 run with losses in five of their last six contests (1-4-1). The Canucks aim to regain their footing on Saturday when they conclude their four-game homestand against the Colorado Avalanche.
Detroit at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks' season-high five-game winning streak has coincided with the sterling play of Tomas Hertl, who has scored a goal in each of those contests and added three assists to boot. Hertl's availability for Saturday's game versus the visiting Detroit Red Wings is in question, however, after he sustained a knee injury in San Jose's 5-3 win at Anaheim.
