Preview Roundups
October 20, 2018
New Jersey at Philadelphia 1:00 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils bid to rebound from their first loss of the season when they visit the Metropolitan Division-rival Philadelphia Flyers for a matinee on Saturday. The Devils will look to vent their frustrations after squandering a third-period lead in a 5-3 setback to Colorado on Thursday against a Flyers' squad that has been gouged for 11 goals over the last two contests.
Colorado at Carolina 1:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes are 4-2-1, a fantastic record only because their special teams are - well - not very special. Carolina is 2-for-25 on the power play - 1-for-17 over their last four games - and 14-for-22 in penalty killing, numbers that must improve to better its chances of defeating the visiting Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon.
Buffalo at Los Angeles 3:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings and the visiting Buffalo Sabres bid to end their respective losing skids at the other's expense on Saturday afternoon when the clubs meet at Staples Center. The Kings have been outscored 16-4 en route to dropping three straight while the Sabres have surrendered nine goals in losing two in a row heading into the fourth contest of a five-game road trip.
Arizona at Winnipeg 4:00 PM ET
Dustin Byfuglien, Bryan Little and Blake Wheeler are the only three Winnipeg Jets who remain from the Atlanta Thrashers relocation to Canada in 2011, and they enter Saturday’s home game against the Arizona Coyotes off a great performance. The trio combined for two goals and four assists in Thursday’s 4-1 home victory over Vancouver, sparked by Byfuglien’s three points in his first game back after missing two contests with an upper-body injury.
St. Louis at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
Auston Matthews and the high-scoring Toronto Maple Leafs were finally cooled off, seeing their five-game losing streak come to an end in a 3-0 shutout loss to visiting Pittsburgh on Thursday. Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said there was a lesson to be learned from the defeat and hopes to see his team get back on track versus the visiting St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
Montreal at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
Carey Price is coming off the worst season of his career but he has a chance to reach a significant milestone when the Montreal Canadiens visit the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. Price, who returned to the lineup Wednesday after sitting out two games with the flu, can match Hall of Famer Patrick Roy for the second-most wins in franchise history.
Detroit at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings continue their quest for that elusive first win of the season when they conclude a four-game road trip Saturday by visiting the Florida Panthers. Detroit has earned just two points thus far in 2018-19, suffering an overtime loss to Columbus in its season opener and falling in a shootout at Anaheim on Oct. 8.
Chicago at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks look to rebound after suffering their first regulation loss of the season when they play the only road game in a two-week period Saturday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blackhawks won three of their first five games - all of them going to overtime - before giving up the final three goals in a 4-1 setback against Arizona at home Thursday.
Tampa Bay at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning are the only team in the league that hasn't played on the road but that will change with a five-game, eight-day trip that begins against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. The Lightning, who visit Chicago on Sunday, finished off a season-opening homestand with four wins in five games after a 3-1 victory over Detroit on Thursday.
Boston at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins have cooled off away from TD Garden and will try to avoid a third consecutive defeat when they visit the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night in the third stop of a four-game road trip. Boston amassed 18 goals while sweeping a three-game homestand but was limited to two goals in back-to-back defeats at Calgary and Edmonton.
Anaheim at Vegas 10:00 PM ET
Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf is expected back in the lineup when the Ducks visit the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. Getzlaf has missed the last five games with a groin injury - one of several Anaheim forwards who have missed time this season - and his return will add depth to the center position as Ryan Kesler appears fully recovered from hip surgery two offseasons ago.
Nashville at Edmonton 10:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers have turned things around after a disappointing start to the season and hope the success continues when they resume their four-game homestand against the Nashville Predators on Saturday. The Oilers were outscored 9-3 while losing their first two contests of 2018-19 but have bounced back with three straight wins, including Thursday's 3-2 overtime triumph over Boston in their home opener.
NY Islanders at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The New York Islanders look to forge a split of their four-game road trip and complete a season sweep of the San Jose Sharks on Saturday when the clubs meet at SAP Center. The Islanders, who posted a 4-0 victory in the teams' first encounter on Columbus Day, have won three in a row over the Sharks and three of their last five in San Jose.
