Preview Roundups
October 17, 2019
Tampa Bay at Boston 7:00 PM ET
David Pastrnak and his dominant line look to keep their torrid scoring pace going when the Boston Bruins try to solve the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning in an Atlantic Division battle Thursday night. Pastrnak has six goals in the last four games, including four in Monday’s 4-2 victory over Anaheim, while the right wing and his linemates Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron have combined for 24 of the team’s 41 points.
Minnesota at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens were unable to follow up a decisive victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions, getting shut down by the reigning Presidents' Trophy winners on Tuesday night. The Canadiens will look to salvage a split of a four-game homestand and exploit a struggling opponent when they host the skidding Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.
NY Rangers at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils entered the season with high hopes but they are the only team in the league that has yet to taste victory. After blowing another big lead to remain winless through six games, the Devils will look to avoid their worst start in six years against a familiar rival when the New York Rangers pay a visit to the Prudential Center on Thursday night.
Vancouver at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
St. Louis Blues forward Brayden Schenn wasted little time paying significant dividends on the eight-year, $52 million contract he signed earlier this month. Schenn carries a five-game goal-scoring streak into the Blues' opener of a four-game homestand versus the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.
NY Islanders at Winnipeg 8:00 PM ET
After allowing five goals in back-to-back losses last week, the New York Islanders have found their footing entering Thursday’s contest at the Winnipeg Jets. The Islanders posted a 3-2 shootout victory Saturday over Florida before some late-game heroics led to a 3-2 overtime triumph Monday over St. Louis, as Brock Nelson scored with 5:31 left in regulation, Mathew Barzal evened the score with 27 seconds to go and Devon Toews scored the winner 1:13 in overtime.
Detroit at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames enjoyed good fortune at home in 2018-19, and the early returns this season are projecting for more of the same. The Flames aim to continue their success at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday when they conclude a two-game stretch against the Detroit Red Wings.
Nashville at Arizona 10:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators have been an offensive juggernaut during the early part of the season, averaging a league-high 4.67 goals per contest, but they could be without one of their most dangerous players in the finale of a three-game road trip. Forward Filip Forsberg has been listed as a game-time decision for Nashville's matchup at the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night.
Ottawa at Vegas 10:00 PM ET
Vegas Golden Knights forward Mark Stone has made himself at home in Sin City, however, the two-way forward will see a familiar team pay a visit on Thursday when the Ottawa Senators come calling to T-Mobile Arena. Vegas won the bidding war in February for Stone, who then cashed in on an eight-year contract extension that carries an average annual value of $9.5 million.
Buffalo at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres' season-opening point streak came to an end in the opener of their California road trip, but they hope to begin a new run when they visit the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Buffalo earned at least one point in each of its first six contests (5-0-1) before dropping a 5-2 decision Wednesday in Anaheim.
