The Carolina Hurricanes earned a much-needed road victory last time out and look to add another 24 hours later when they visit the stumbling Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday afternoon. The Hurricanes had lost four straight (0-3-1) since their top two goalies went down with injuries, but Anton Forsberg made 24 saves and Vincent Trocheck scored in overtime for a 3-2 victory at the New York Islanders on Saturday.

The Tampa Bay Lightning only have about 18 hours to recover from an physical and emotional battle with the league’s top team when they visit the NHL-worst Detroit Red Wings on Sunday, seeking a 17th straight regular-season win in the series. The Lightning hung on for a 5-3 victory at Boston on Saturday night and will also lose an hour from daylight savings time before hitting the ice in the late afternoon Sunday.

The Calgary Flames are among five teams from the Pacific Division battling for playoff slots in the tightly bunched Western Conference, but suddenly find themselves within striking distance of first place. Winners of three in a row, the Flames have a chance to inch closer to the division lead when they host the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday night.

Having a long winning streak end against a last-place club could come back to haunt the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues, but a similar defeat by the Chicago Blackhawks could have far more damaging consequences. At least the Minnesota Wild won't have to wait long to flush one of their worst performances of the season when they complete a three-game California trip Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks. Minnesota matched a season high for goals allowed in a 7-3 loss to Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon that ended its six-game road winning streak and sits one point behind Vancouver, Nashville and Winnipeg, who share the Western Conference wild-card lead.

The Vancouver Canucks sit in a three-way tie for a Western Conference wild card spot and look to earn a crucial two points Sunday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Canucks will also be seeking retribution as they were handed a 5-3 defeat last Sunday in Columbus - the final game of Vancouver's 1-3-0 road trip.
Colorado at San Jose 10:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche are in a bit of a defensive funk as they continue their three-game west coast trip Sunday against the San Jose Sharks. Colorado lost 6-3 to Vancouver on Friday after a 4-3 overtime setback at home to Anaheim on Wednesday, marking the most goals it has allowed in a two-game span this season.
