Preview Roundups
January 12, 2020
Nashville at Winnipeg 2:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators travel to face the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday after a night of firsts in Chicago two nights earlier, including John Hynes’ first victory as coach and goaltender Pekka Rinne’s goal. The 5-2 victory over the Blackhawks provided plenty of momentum for the Predators, who fired former coach Peter Laviolette on Monday in an effort to shake up a preseason Central Division contender that has struggled at times this season.
Vancouver at Minnesota 4:00 PM ET
Things got a little too hot for the Vancouver Canucks in the Sunshine State so it shuffled off to Buffalo and got some relief. Vancouver continues its five-game road trip when it meets the Minnesota Wild on Sunday after a 6-3 victory over Buffalo on Saturday helped erase the memories of losses to Tampa Bay and Florida by a combined 14-4.
Buffalo at Detroit 5:00 PM ET
The red-hot start to the season is a distant memory for the Buffalo Sabres, who are just trying to remain within striking distance in the Eastern Conference playoff race as they visit the NHL-worst Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Buffalo started the season with points in nine of 10 games (8-1-1) and enjoyed another promising 6-2-4 stretch, but has lost nine of the last 12 contests after Saturday’s 6-3 loss to Vancouver at home.
Pittsburgh at Arizona 6:00 PM ET
No one will say definitively whether Sidney Crosby will play when the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday, but Saturday's practice may have spoke volumes. Crosby, who last played Nov. 9 and underwent sports hernia surgery Nov. 14, worked out with the team in full capacity and participated in line rushes with the top power-play unit.
Toronto at Florida 7:00 PM ET
Auston Matthews looks to continue his offensive surge as the Toronto Maple Leafs make a quick trip to Florida in the middle of six home games to meet the Atlantic Division-rival Panthers on Sunday night. Matthews became the first United States-born player to score at least 30 times in each of his first four NHL seasons after registering two in Wednesday’s 4-3 shootout loss to Winnipeg while extending his point streak to six games (seven goals, four assists).
Tampa Bay at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning are finding different ways to earn victories every night and look to extend their winning streak to a franchise-record 11 games when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night. The Lightning scored nine goals in a victory over Vancouver on Tuesday before registering consecutive shutouts, including a 1-0 triumph at Philadelphia on Saturday.
