Preview Roundups
January 04, 2020
Edmonton at Boston 1:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins have gone three weeks without failing to earn a point, but they are still in a slump of sorts due mainly to their inability to win when a game stretches beyond regulation. Boston has lost only once in regulation at home and is riding a nine-game point streak into Saturday afternoon's matchup against the visiting Edmonton Oilers.
San Jose at Columbus 1:00 PM ET
The injury-riddled Columbus Blue Jackets have overcome a bevy of bandages to become the hottest team in the NHL. The Blue Jays aim to continue their torrid stretch on Saturday afternoon when they bid to extend their 12-game point streak (8-0-4) against the visiting San Jose Sharks.
Florida at Buffalo 1:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres opened the calendar year with a much-needed victory and look to build a streak when they host the Atlantic Division-rival Florida Panthers on Saturday afternoon. The Sabres had lost four in a row and seven of eight before rallying from an early two-goal deficit to beat Edmonton 3-2 on Thursday at home on captain Jack Eichel’s overtime winner to begin the 2020 portion of the schedule.
Winnipeg at Minnesota 2:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild currently are five games into a stretch where they play 18 of 22 contests at home, but enter Saturday’s home matchup with the Winnipeg Jets needing a spark after losing two straight. The Wild are 1-3 on home ice during the start of the stretch, which began with an ugly 6-0 loss to the Jets on Dec. 21, and gave up the game’s first three goals in a 4-1 loss Tuesday to Toronto to enter the new year fifth in the Central Division.
St. Louis at Vegas 4:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues have hit a bump in the road following an eight-game winning streak, losing two in a row and absorbing their worst defeat of the season. The defending Stanley Cup champions will look to avoid a winless three-game road trip when they visit the surging Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon in a matchup of division leaders.
NY Islanders at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs have turned up the heat over the last three weeks, sporting a sizzling 8-0-1 record to ascend into second place in the Atlantic Division. The Maple Leafs aim to continue their good fortune on Saturday when they open a three-game homestand against the New York Islanders.
Pittsburgh at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens are mired in a four-game skid, and the cause for concern that comes with being on the wrong end of the scoreboard has led to the team shuffling the deck with its roster. Fresh off the acquisition of Ilya Kovalchuk and a pair of trades, the Canadiens look to get back on track against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
Tampa Bay at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to continue some impressive goal-scoring balance and extend their season-high winning streak to six games when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. Captain Steven Stamkos tied Brayden Point and Alex Killorn for the team lead with his 15th goal and Nikita Kucherov added his 14th as the Lightning held off Montreal 2-1 on Thursday.
Colorado at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche begin a three-game trip to greater New York City on Saturday when they meet the New Jersey Devils after recording their signature victory of the season. Colorado comes off a 7-3 win over defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis on Thursday, snapping a six-game slide against the first-place Blues and moving to within six points of the top spot in the Central Division.
Philadelphia at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes have struggled to find their footing at home this season while the Philadelphia Flyers have routinely fallen flat away from the City of Brotherly Love. The Coyotes, however, have slowly taken steps to remedy their troubles at home and look to continue that progress on Saturday against the Flyers.
NY Rangers at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers look to finish off their four-game road trip on a winning note Saturday when they face a red-hot Vancouver Canucks squad which is aiming for a seventh consecutive victory. The Rangers have recent experience ending win streaks as they snapped Toronto’s six-game run to open their road trip, but have since surrendered 11 goals during a pair of losses to Edmonton and Calgary.
Nashville at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Nashville Predators make a quick trip to southern California for a back-to-back set beginning Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings. Nashville tries to recover from a disappointing 4-2 loss to Dallas on Wednesday in the NHL Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl that extended its losing streak to three games as it sits five points out of playoff position in the Western Conference.
