Preview Roundups
November 15, 2016
Dayton at Alabama 1:15 PM ET
Alabama head coach Avery Johnson has sour memories of last year's Tip-Off Marathon showdown with Dayton - and as fate would have it, he'll get his shot at revenge on the very same stage as the Crimson Tide host the Flyers on Tuesday afternoon. Johnson's team was outclassed and outgunned last season on the way to an 80-48 humbling at the hands of the Atlantic 10 regular-season co-champions.
Oregon at Baylor 3:30 PM ET
When Oregon hosted Baylor a year ago in the first-ever meeting between the teams, nine NBA scouts were in attendance as the upstart Ducks recorded a 74-67 victory. A similar buzz surrounds Tuesday’s rematch in Waco as the fifth-ranked Ducks face a Baylor team that appears well-equipped to return to the NCAA tournament for the fourth straight year.
Monmouth-NJ at South Carolina 6:30 PM ET

An early clash of teams hoping to make the next step takes place when South Carolina hosts Monmouth on Tuesday in a matchup of teams who were top seeds in last year’s NIT. Both teams are unbeaten on the young season and looking for a victory that could boost their postseason résumé when March rolls around.

Maryland at Georgetown 6:30 PM ET
Maryland coach Mark Turgeon knows the 24th-ranked Terrapins are a work in progress, and there will be plenty of adjustment in the early days of the season with nine freshmen on the roster. But Tuesday presents the challenge of a tantalizing early-season matchup as Maryland faces Georgetown in Washington, D.C., in the Gavitt Games.
Appalachian St. at Tennessee 7:00 PM ET
It wasn't the home opener Tennessee fans wanted - which is why most of them left well before the game ended. But Volunteers head coach Rick Barnes is still pleading for patience as he and his largely inexperienced roster look to atone Tuesday night against visiting Appalachian State.
Iona at Florida St. 7:00 PM ET
After several returning players showed improvement since last season and two highly-touted freshmen showed off their skills in its 88-67 opening win against Charleston Southern, Florida State hosts Iona on Tuesday. The Gaels, who are coming off their seventh consecutive 20-win season and a berth in  NCAA Tournament,.should offer a tougher test for the Seminoles.
Holy Cross at Syracuse 7:00 PM ET
As usual, Jim Boeheim found plenty to complain about following a big win. The Syracuse coach was hardly satisfied after his team's season-opening victory, although the 18th-ranked Orange can hopefully make their coach proud Tuesday with a more complete effort against visiting Holy Cross.
St. Francis (NY) at Virginia 7:00 PM ET
New-look Virginia came out of the gate with a solid performance and will add two more newcomers to the mix when it hosts St. Francis Brooklyn on Tuesday night. Memphis transfer Austin Nichols and freshman Mamadi Diakite both missed the seventh-ranked Cavaliers’ 76-51 victory at UNCG on Friday due to one-game suspensions and are expected to play against the Terriers.
Grand Canyon at Penn St. 7:00 PM ET
Lamar Stevens and Tony Carr were teammates on Roman Catholic High's (Pa.) state championship team last season. The Philadelphia-based duo teamed up again to help Penn State win its first game of the season over the weekend and will look for a repeat performance when Grand Canyon visits on Tuesday.
High Point at Virginia Tech 7:00 PM ET

After only one game, it’s already a better season for Virginia Tech. The Hokies opened with an 80-67 victory over Maine on Friday, leaving them in a better frame of mind when they host Big South power High Point on Tuesday.

Maryland - E. Shore at Boston College 7:00 PM ET
Boston College had visions of turning around years of misery with a revamped roster this season, but it looked like more of the same in an unexpected setback to open things up. The Eagles will try to put a bad loss behind them when they welcome Maryland-Eastern Shore to Conte Forum on Tuesday night.
Kentucky at Michigan St 7:00 PM ET
No. 13 Michigan State is piling up the frequent-flyer miles as it continues what is arguably the nation's most difficult start to a schedule against second-ranked Kentucky in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York on Tuesday. The Spartans are coming off a 65-63 loss to No. 11 Arizona on Friday in the Armed Forces Classic in Honolulu and despite the heavy travel and stiff competition, freshman guard Joshua Langford put it all in perspective.
North Texas at Texas Tech 7:30 PM ET
Fast starts are nothing new for Texas Tech coach Chris Beard, who won his first 10 games at Little Rock last season. Keenan Evans notched 28 points to help Beard and the Red Raiders crush Houston Baptist in the season opener last week and they'll look to make it two straight when they host North Texas on Tuesday.
Southern Miss at Louisiana State 8:00 PM ET
LSU continues a three-game homestand to begin the season when it hosts Southern Mississippi on Tuesday night. The Tigers overcame an early nine-point deficit with a dominant second half in a 91-69 victory over Wofford on Saturday in their season opener at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Long Beach St. at North Carolina 8:00 PM ET
North Carolina’s offense has been in midseason form the first two games of the season and the sixth-ranked Tar Heels hope to continue their hot shooting when Long Beach State visits on Tuesday. North Carolina has averaged 96 points in victories over Tulane and Chattanooga while shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 45.7 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
Concordia (OR) at Utah 8:00 PM ET

Playing with a bevy of new faces, Utah struggled early in its season opener Saturday before righting the ship and routing Northwest Nazarene 81-37. The early-season adjustment period will continue Tuesday night as the Utes host Concordia, which is transitioning up to the Division II ranks.

Mary at Nebraska 8:00 PM ET
While some of the play of Nebraska's newcomers may have been enough to give coach Tim Miles a headache in the team's season-opening win, sophomore Glynn Watson Jr. actually played through one in order to give his team the jolt it needed. Miles should have an opportunity to give his youngsters an extended opportunity to build their chemistry Tuesday as the Cornhuskers host Division II foe University of Mary - their coach's alma mater.
Nebraska Omaha at Kansas St. 8:00 PM ET
Kansas State guard Barry Brown is aiming to build on a solid freshman campaign and strives for another successful shooting night when the Wildcats host Omaha in Tuesday's nonconference contest. Brown averaged 8.6 points last season and got this season off to a strong start by scoring 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the season-opening 82-55 victory over Western Illinois.
McKendree at Illinois 8:00 PM ET
Illinois looks to keep up its hot start to the season behind one of the hottest players in the country when it hosts McKendree in a non-conference clash on Tuesday night. The Illini have won their first two, though the latest win -- Sunday over Northern Kentucky -- might have been tougher to get without the play of Malcolm Hill.
Wisconsin at Creighton 8:30 PM ET
No. 11 Wisconsin looks to pass its first test of the young season when it hits the road to battle 20th-ranked Creighton as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games on Tuesday. The Badgers cruised to a 79-47 victory over Central Arkansas in their season opener but will likely face a much stiffer challenge in the second annual showcase, which pits teams from the Big Ten against the Big East.
Belmont at Vanderbilt 9:00 PM ET
It was an inauspicious start to the Bryce Drew era at Vanderbilt, but the Commodores have a chance to make amends when they face Belmont on Tuesday in their home opener. Drew's team took a one-point lead into halftime, but were done in by turnovers and some hot shooting by Marquette in a 24-point loss at the Veterans Classic in Annapolis, Md., on Friday.
Duke at Kansas 9:30 PM ET

A matchup fit for a Final Four is on tap Tuesday when top-ranked Duke takes on No. 8 Kansas in the State Farm Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Jayhawks are looking for their second win over a top-ranked team in as many seasons as they try to avoid an 0-2 start.

Cal. State - Bakersfield at Arizona 10:00 PM ET
Arizona returns home Tuesday night following its season-opening win in Hawaii, but it's looking highly unlikely the No. 9 Wildcats will have Allonzo Trier in uniform against visiting Cal State Bakersfield. Trier, the top returning scorer this season after averaging 14.8 points as a freshman, did not travel with the team to face then-No. 9 Michigan State in the season-opening Armed Forces Classic, though reasons for his absence from the 65-63 victory have not been specified.
CSU Northridge at Stanford 10:00 PM ET
Stanford forward Reid Travis was a forgotten man last season, when he missed the final 22 games with a stress reaction in his left leg. After an impressive showing in the team’s season-opening win over Harvard, Travis looks to take another step forward Tuesday as the Cardinal host CSU Northridge, which led at the half before losing 102-87 to UCLA on Sunday.
Central Washington at Washington St. 10:00 PM ET
One game doesn't offer any definitive proof, but Washington State is hopeful that junior forward Derrien King will emerge as the team's third scoring option. King scored 22 points in the Cougars' season opener and he will once again be counted on when Washington State faces Central Washington on Tuesday in a neutral-court game at Kennewick, Wash.
