Preview Roundups
February 18, 2020
Illinois at Penn St. 6:30 PM ET
No. 9 Penn State will aim for a ninth consecutive victory and try to stay close in the race for the Big Ten regular season crown when it hosts Illinois on Tuesday. The Nittany Lions kept alive their longest winning streak since joining the Big Ten in 1993 when they rolled to a 77-61 win over Northwestern on Saturday.
Vanderbilt at Tennessee 6:30 PM ET
Tennessee's John Fulkerson continued the best stretch of his three-year career but couldn't prevent a two-point loss at South Carolina on Saturday. The Volunteers will try and get back over .500 in SEC play when they host struggling Vanderbilt on Tuesday.
Arkansas at Florida 7:00 PM ET
After an emotional 84-66 triumph over Vanderbilt Saturday that featured the halftime unveiling of "Billy Donovan Court" in honor of the school's former head coach, Florida now turns its attention to hosting a meeting with Arkansas on Tuesday. The two schools have the same overall record, but the Gators boast four more SEC wins thanks to a recent surge with victories in four of the last five outings.
Purdue at Wisconsin 7:00 PM ET
Wisconsin looks to win its third consecutive game when it hosts Purdue in a crucial Big Ten clash for both teams on Tuesday. The Badgers took care of business against Ohio State (70-57) on Feb. 9 before routing Nebraska (81-64) on Saturday to notch their first road victory since Jan. 11, and they hope to take another step towards securing an NCAA Tournament by extending their home winning streak to five games.
Oklahoma State at West Virginia 7:00 PM ET
West Virginia has annually been among the best teams in the country in terms of creating chaos under Bob Huggins, but it has been the Mountaineers' frustrating tendency to give the ball right back to the opponent that has repeatedly drawn the ire of their coach. With its hopes of a Big 12 regular-season title all but dashed, No. 18 West Virginia hopes to end a season-high three-game skid Tuesday when they host an Oklahoma State squad starting to pick up some steam.
Pittsburgh at Florida State 8:00 PM ET
It didn't look like Florida State's M.J. Walker would be around for the end of the Syracuse game Saturday, but the junior guard not only somewhat unexpectedly returned to action but also made the biggest play of the game. Walker will have two days to get used to 12 stitches in his lip when the eighth-ranked Seminoles try to avenge an opening-night loss to Pittsburgh when they host the Panthers on Tuesday.
Northwestern at Maryland 8:00 PM ET
Seventh-ranked Maryland looks to stay on course to secure its first Big Ten regular-season title since joining the conference in 2014 when it hosts Northwestern on Tuesday. The Terrapins have won eight consecutive games, including an impressive 67-60 road victory over 25th-ranked Michigan State, to remain at the top of the Big Ten standings, and they hope to improve to 15-0 at home for the first time since winning 17 straight during the 1979-80 season.
Creighton at Marquette 8:30 PM ET
No. 15 Creighton hopes to continue its push toward first place in the Big East when it visits 19th-ranked Marquette on Tuesday. The Bluejays have won three straight and seven of their last eight to pull within one game of league-leading Seton Hall, which visits Creighton in the finale of the regular season March 7.
Mississippi at Missouri 8:30 PM ET
Missouri looks for a second straight win and to climb to .500 on the season when it hosts Ole Miss in an SEC contest on Tuesday. The Tigers are coming off an upset of No. 12 Auburn on Saturday, while the Rebels come into the contest having dropped their last outing - 67-62 at No. 10 Kentucky.
Dayton at VCU 8:30 PM ET
Fifth-ranked Dayton won despite some sloppy ball handling last time out and seeks a sharper performance as the Flyers go after a 15th straight victory Tuesday night when they visit VCU for an Atlantic 10 matchup. Dayton turned the ball over 17 times, but shot 52.9 percent from the field to outlast Massachusetts 71-63 on Saturday to remain unbeaten in league play.
Kentucky at Louisiana State 9:00 PM ET
No. 10 Kentucky narrowly avoided a loss in a weekend of upsets at the top of the SEC to take over first place and looks to remain in the driver’s seat when it visits LSU for another marquee matchup Tuesday night. While Auburn and LSU were losing to drop out of the top spot, the Wildcats scored the game’s final six points to turn back Ole Miss 67-62 on Saturday for their fourth straight win and eighth in nine contests.
Baylor at Oklahoma 9:00 PM ET
Baylor finds itself on the verge of making Big 12 history, but putting its name in the record books might take a backseat to a more important short-term goal at the moment: maintaining a one-game lead on Kansas in the conference race entering their showdown with the Jayhawks this weekend. The top-ranked Bears set their sights on a 23rd consecutive victory Tuesday when they visit Oklahoma.
