Preview Roundups
January 19, 2017
Maryland at Iowa 7:00 PM ET
Maryland looks to take sole possession of first place in the Big Ten when it hits the road to face Iowa on Thursday. The No. 25 Terrapins won three consecutive games, including road victories over Michigan 77-70 and Illinois 62-56 to move back into the Top 25 for the first time since early December and can jump ahead of No. 17 Wisconsin at the top of the conference standings with another triumph.
Connecticut at Southern Methodist 7:00 PM ET
Connecticut looks to continue its climb in the American Athletic Conference race when it visits powerful SMU on Thursday. The Huskies won two straight conference games after beginning the league schedule with three straight losses.
Clemson at Louisville 9:00 PM ET
Louisville begins a stretch of games without point guard and second-leading scorer Quentin Snider when it hosts snake-bitten Clemson for an ACC matchup Thursday night. Snider, who averages 12.1 points and four assists, is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks with a strained hip flexor as the 11th-ranked Cardinals go after their fourth consecutive victory.
California at Oregon 9:00 PM ET
Oregon puts its 14-game winning streak on the line Thursday as the 10th-ranked Ducks host California, which has moved into fourth place in the Pac-12 following three straight wins. The Ducks are coming off an 85-43 rout of rival Oregon State on Saturday and can match the school record for consecutive wins with a victory over the Bears.
Arizona at Southern California 9:00 PM ET
Lauri Markkanen, Dusan Ristic and Kadeem Allen have been performing at their highest levels of the season for No. 13 Arizona, and the trio will try to maintain their hot hands Thursday night at USC in a Pac-12 game. Meanwhile, USC hopes junior guard Elijah Stewart - who is shooting 30 percent from the field in conference play after hitting on 44.2 percent of his attempts during the non-conference portion of the schedule - can find his touch again.
Memphis at Houston 9:00 PM ET
Two high-scoring teams will face off Thursday as Memphis travels to take on Houston in an American Athletic Conference showdown. The Tigers are averaging a conference-best 78.8 points and have won four of their last five, while the Cougars are third in the league at 75.8 points but enter the contest having dropped two of three.
Pacific at St. Mary's 11:00 PM ET
With the pecking order seemingly clear in the West Coast Conference, No. 23 Saint Mary's tries for its eighth straight victory over Pacific when it hosts the Tigers on Thursday. The Gaels rode a nine-game winning streak into their contest at No. 4 Gonzaga on Saturday, but exited with a 79-56 loss and should be favored to win their next seven contests before getting a rematch Feb. 11 with the only undefeated Division I team in the nation.
Stanford at Oregon St. 11:00 PM ET
When Stanford begins a three-game road trip at Oregon State on Thursday, it’s likely that each team will be without its best player. Oregon State forward Tres Tinkle remains sidelined with a broken wrist, while Cardinal forward Reid Travis is listed as day-to-day after reinjuring his right shoulder in Saturday’s 76-69 win over Washington.
Arizona State at UCLA 11:00 PM ET
Avoiding a letdown off its last win while trying to block out a big matchup this weekend might be the biggest challenge when No. 3 UCLA hosts Arizona State in a Pac-12 game Thursday night. The Bruins are coming off a difficult one-point victory last Saturday at Utah, one of the toughest places for opposing teams to play in the league, and have a date penciled Saturday against No. 13 Arizona.
Gonzaga at Santa Clara 11:00 PM ET
The lone unbeaten team in the nation, fourth-ranked Gonzaga looks to record its 18th consecutive victory when it visits Santa Clara in West Coast Conference play on Thursday. Gonzaga showed it has a realistic chance of completing the regular season with an unbeaten record when it blitzed then-No. 21 Saint Mary's 79-56 on Saturday in a highly anticipated conference showdown.
