Preview Roundups
December 26, 2018
Washington at Detroit 7:00 PM ET
The Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards are both having some trouble generating positive momentum and are coming off losses heading into a matchup at Detroit on Wednesday. The Pistons looked like Eastern Conference contenders before dropping nine of their last 11 games, including a 98-95 home setback to the lowly Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
Phoenix at Orlando 7:00 PM ET
Rookie Deandre Ayton is beginning to show clearly why he was the No. 1 pick in the draft last June and the 7-1 center hopes to continue his strong play when the Phoenix Suns visit the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. Ayton is averaging 24 points on 67.8 percent shooting along with 16.5 rebounds over the first four of a five-game road trip and boasts eight double-doubles in the past nine contests.
Indiana at Atlanta 7:30 PM ET
Even the absence of John Collins could not keep the Atlanta Hawks from extending their winning streak to a season-best three games Sunday, and they may be without the developing star again Wednesday at home against the Indiana Pacers. A left ankle sprain sidelined Collins for Sunday’s 98-95 victory at Detroit, but the center duo of Dewayne Dedmon and Alex Len combined for 26 points and 22 rebounds to lead Atlanta to its first three-game winning streak since April 2017.
Charlotte at Brooklyn 7:30 PM ET
The Brooklyn Nets bounced back well from their first loss in over two weeks and hope to continue their recent surge when they host the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday in the front end of a home-and-home set. The Nets saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end with a loss to Indiana in the opener of a three-game homestand Friday, but recovered to top Phoenix 111-103 two nights later.
Toronto at Miami 7:30 PM ET
The Miami Heat have climbed back into a playoff position in the Eastern Conference and look to extend their season-high winning streak to six when they host the NBA-best Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. The Heat shot 50.6 percent from the field, including 16-of-31 from 3-point range, and forced 19 turnovers in Sunday’s 115-91 rout of Orlando - a team that had beat them twice this season - to give coach Erik Spoelstra his 500th career win.
Minnesota at Chicago 8:00 PM ET
The Chicago Bulls are putting together a winning streak that has them out of the basement in the Eastern Conference and will try to make it three in a row when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. The Bulls snapped a streak of seven straight games scoring fewer than 100 points with a 112-92 triumph at Cleveland on Sunday.
Cleveland at Memphis 8:00 PM ET
The Memphis Grizzlies snapped a long losing streak to go into a Christmas break on a high note, which they hope to carry forward with a matchup against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. Behind 27 points by rookie Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies ended their five-game slide with a 107-99 win at the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
New Orleans at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Dallas Mavericks are suffering through the NBA's longest current losing streak at six straight while struggling on the road and on the defensive end. The Mavericks are a much better team at home and will try to snap the slide when they host the opener of a home-and-home set against the similarly struggling New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.
Denver at San Antonio 8:30 PM ET
The San Antonio Spurs seek to post their 12th consecutive home win over Denver when they host the Nuggets on Wednesday in the first game of a home-and-home between the two teams. Denver hasn't won a contest in San Antonio since posting a 99-94 victory on March 4, 2012.
Sacramento at L.A. Clippers 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Clippers attempt to extend their winning streak over Sacramento to seven games when they host the Kings on Wednesday. Los Angeles prevailed in this season's first meeting as forward Tobias Harris scored 28 points in a 133-121 road triumph on Nov. 29.
