September 27, 2019
Detroit at Chi. White Sox 4:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox severely damaged American League Central rival Cleveland’s playoff hopes over the last two days and look to finish on a high note when they begin a four-game home series against the Detroit Tigers on Friday with a doubleheader, which could be threatened by inclement weather. The White Sox pounded out 14 hits in an 8-3 victory over the Indians on Wednesday before Daniel Palka launched his first two homers of the season in an 8-0 triumph the following day.
Cleveland at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians’ postseason hopes are on life support as they prepare to visit the playoff-bound Washington Nationals on Friday for the opener of their three-game interleague series. The Indians suffered back-to-back losses to the Chicago White Sox, including Thursday’s 8-0 disaster, to fall two games behind idle Tampa Bay for the American League’s second wild-card spot with three contests left on the schedule.
Miami at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies find themselves under .500 for the first time this season after being unceremoniously swept in a five-game series by one National League East rival. The fourth-place Phillies aim to put a stop to their six-game skid on Friday when they open a three-game set against another division foe in the visiting Miami Marlins.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates haven't had much for which to cheer this season, however the club can hold its head high for its recent performances when the Cincinnati Reds pay a visit to the Steel City. The Pirates bid to extend their home winning streak over the Reds to 11 contests on Friday when the National League Central rivals open a season-ending three-game series.
Tampa Bay at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays control their own playoff destiny as they finish the regular season with a three-game set against the Blue Jays beginning Friday in Toronto. Tampa Bay, which completed its home schedule by taking five of six from Boston and the New York Yankees, holds a two-game lead on Cleveland for the final American League wild card berth and is one game behind Oakland for the top spot.
Baltimore at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox will conclude a disappointing season at home over the weekend, beginning Friday night with the first of three games against the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox were mired in third place for nearly the entire season as they struggled to defend their World Series crown and finished their final road trip with a dud, dropping a 7-5 decision at Texas on Thursday.
Atlanta at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves enter Friday’s opener of a three-game series at the New York Mets focused on getting their lineup in order for the National League Division Series, but will be without a key piece for the final three games of the season. Outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. will sit out the Mets series with a left groin strain that he suffered in Tuesday’s loss at Kansas City, and while the injury is no considered serious, it does end the 21-year-old’s quest for a 40-40 series three steals shy.
Detroit at Chi. White Sox 7:40 PM ET
NY Yankees at Texas 8:05 PM ET
James Paxton will make his final tune-up for the postseason when he takes the mound Friday for the New York Yankees in the opener of a three-game series at the Texas Rangers. Paxton, along with Masahiro Tanaka and Luis Severino, is a candidate to pitch Game 1 of the team's American League Division Series beginning next Friday, and he's certainly the hottest of the trio.
Milwaukee at Colorado 8:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers are trying to follow the same path they traveled in winning the National League Central a year ago, using a strong push over the last month to take the division. The Brewers have already clinched a wild card but they remain one game behind first-place St. Louis entering their final three-game series of the season at the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.
Chi. Cubs at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals severely hurt Chicago's playoff hopes last weekend and now look to celebrate a division title during their three-game home series against the Cubs that begins on Friday. St. Louis swept a four-game set in Chicago and the Cubs, who have been eliminated from postseason contention, still are reeling as they enter the series opener with a nine-game skid.
Minnesota at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
Having clinched the American League Central title, the Minnesota Twins really do not have anything to play for as they prepare for a likely postseason matchup with the New York Yankees. The Twins do have a shot at a handful of team and individual records as they go for their 100th win in the opener of a three-game series at the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.
San Diego at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
The San Diego Padres are two wins away from guaranteeing themselves their best record in four seasons, but the way they are finishing out the year has not exactly been cause for celebration. The Padres attempt to win for only the third time in 15 games Friday when they travel to Arizona for the opener of a three-game set with the Diamondbacks.
Houston at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Houston Astros continue their quest to claim homefield advantage throughout the postseason when they visit the Los Angeles Angels on Friday in the second contest of a four-game set. Houston (104-55) dropped the opener 4-3 in 12 innings on Thursday and is one game ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers and two in front of the New York Yankees for the best record in the majors.
Oakland at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
Matt Chapman has used his power to guide the Oakland Athletics to back-to-back victories after they dropped their previous two contests. Oakland looks to make it three wins in a row and maintain its hold on the top wild-card spot in the American League when it visits the Seattle Mariners on Friday.
LA Dodgers at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
Despite the fact they are separated by 26 games in the National League West, the San Francisco Giants have seemingly been a persistent thorn in the side of the Los Angeles Dodgers more often than not throughout the season. The Dodgers only need one victory this weekend in order to win the season series from their bitter arch-rival, however, and they'll try to get that Friday when they meet in the opener of a three-game set at San Francisco.
