Preview Roundups
September 19, 2019
Philadelphia at Atlanta 12:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves have succeeded at a torrid pace for most of the summer, but enter Thursday’s home series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies trying to avoid being swept for the first time since late July. The Phillies, who are chasing the final National League wild card spot, used homers from Bryce Harper and Cesar Hernandez to clinch the series win with a 4-1 victory Wednesday, keeping the Braves from reducing their magic number to win the NL East to one.
Seattle at Pittsburgh 12:35 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners attempt to finish off a three-game sweep when they visit the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Seattle won the first two games by a 10-1 margin and has won four straight contests and six of eight since hot-hitting Kyle Lewis reached the majors.
San Francisco at Boston 1:05 PM ET
When the San Francisco Giants wrap up a three-game interleague series at the Boston Red Sox on Thursday afternoon, a pitching duel will feature the winningest left-hander in the majors. No, it's not Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, who will try to help San Francisco complete a sweep of the defending World Series champions when he opposes Eduardo Rodriguez at Fenway Park.
San Diego at Milwaukee 4:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers' September surge hit a lull Wednesday night, but they'll have a chance at a series win when they finish a four-game set with the visiting San Diego Padres on Thursday. After winning 11 of 12 games, the Brewers were held to three hits in a 2-1 loss to the Padres on Wednesday.
LA Angels at NY Yankees 6:35 PM ET
The New York Yankees will soon clinch the American League East for the first time in seven years, but they still have plenty of work to do down the stretch. With their magic number to win the division down to one, the Yankees continue their pursuit of home-field advantage throughout the American League playoffs Thursday when they take on the visiting Los Angeles Angels in the rubber match of a three-game set.
Toronto at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
It's a near-impossible task to pick out the most crushing defeat for a team that has lost 103 games, but the Baltimore Orioles added one to their short list on Wednesday night. On the verge of winning three straight series for the first time this season, Baltimore imploded in the late innings and must regroup for Thursday's rubber match versus the visiting Toronto Blue Jays.
Detroit at Cleveland 7:15 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians try for their 17th straight victory over Detroit when they host the Tigers on Thursday in the finale of their 19-game season series. Cleveland and Detroit split their first two meetings of 2019 but it's been one-sided since with Yasiel Puig's walk-off single off the right field wall with the bases loaded and two out in the 10th inning giving the Indians a 2-1 victory Wednesday.
St. Louis at Chi. Cubs 7:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals look to build on their three-game lead in the National League Central when they open a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. The Cardinals and Cubs face each other in seven of their final 10 games with the Milwaukee Brewers also factoring in the division and wild card races.
Kansas City at Minnesota 7:40 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins' magic number to clinch their first American League Central title since 2010 sits at seven as they conclude their final homestand of the season with a four-game series versus the Kansas City Royals beginning Thursday. Minnesota missed a chance to move closer to winning the division with a 3-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday and is four games ahead of Cleveland with 10 contests remaining - all against Kansas City (56-97) and Detroit (45-106).
