Preview Roundups
September 15, 2019
Boston at Philadelphia 1:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies have been doing a lot of scoreboard-watching lately but aren't happy with what's on display as they host the Boston Red Sox on Sunday for the finale of their two-game interleague series. Philadelphia sits 3 1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the second National League wild-card spot after suffering a 2-1 loss on Saturday and also must pass Milwaukee and the New York Mets to reach the postseason for the first time since 2011.
NY Yankees at Toronto 1:07 PM ET
While the New York Yankees own the best record in the majors as they vie for home-field advantage in the postseason, they continue to show that their offense travels pretty well. The Yankees have scored 66 runs entering the finale of their 10-game road trip and go for their seventh straight series win in the rubber match of a three-game set at the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.
Minnesota at Cleveland 1:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins took a big step toward winning the American League Central title Saturday and can put the hammer down Sunday afternoon when they go for a three-game sweep of the host Cleveland Indians. The Twins used five pitchers for a shutout in the opener of a doubleheader Saturday and rallied from three runs down in the nightcap for a 9-5 victory to extend their lead to 5 1/2 games over the Indians in the division.
Baltimore at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers are not ready to fold up the season just yet and may be primed to make a move out of the major league basement. The Tigers will try to take another step toward 29th place when they host the Baltimore Orioles in the third of a four-game series on Sunday.
Atlanta at Washington 1:38 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves moved closer to the National League East title and aim for a three-game sweep Sunday at the Washington Nationals, but in the process of Saturday’s 10-1 victory lost a key bench piece when Charlie Culberson was hit in the face with a pitch. The infielder/outfielder took a fastball to his right cheek trying to bunt in the seventh and, after he left the field on a cart, Atlanta responded with nine runs in three innings to drop its magic number to four.
Milwaukee at St. Louis 2:15 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers consistently have proved they don't need reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich in the lineup in order to win, and that ability will be necessary moving forward if they hope to return to the postseason. The Brewers seek their ninth victory in 10 contests on Sunday, when they visit the St. Louis Cardinals for the rubber match of their three-game series.
Houston at Kansas City 2:15 PM ET
Alex Bregman has enjoyed an American League MVP-caliber season, but his recent production was a bit lacking - especially during the final three games of the Houston Astros' previous series. The two-time All-Star has used the weekend to get back on track, and the Astros hope to continue to take advantage of his presence in the middle of their lineup when they attempt to complete a three-game sweep of the host Kansas City Royals on Sunday.
Pittsburgh at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
Returning to the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field has done wonders for the Chicago Cubs, who have put on an offensive showcase in two games since returning from a lackluster 3-5 road trip. After pounding out nine homers and 31 runs in back-to-back routs of Pittsburgh, the Cubs look to complete a three-game sweep of their division rivals on Sunday afternoon.
Oakland at Texas 3:05 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics are utilizing the home run ball to inch toward a playoff berth in the American League, and they'll hope to stay hot when they aim for a sweep of a three-game series Sunday at the Texas Rangers. Four Athletics hitters went deep in Saturday's 8-6 triumph, the fifth straight for Oakland, which remained atop the AL wild-card heap.
San Diego at Colorado 3:10 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies fell out of playoff contention after going 15-38 over the previous two months, but appear intent on finishing the season on a high note. The Rockies have rediscovered their offense this weekend and look to complete a sweep of their three-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres on Sunday.
Miami at San Francisco 4:05 PM ET
Oracle Park has not been kind to the San Francisco Giants, who sit 10 games under .500 at their picturesque ballpark after losing 10 of their last 13 at home. The Giants look to get untracked Sunday in the rubber match of their three-game series against the visiting Miami Marlins.
Tampa Bay at LA Angels 4:07 PM ET
A day after having a bit of breathing room in the American League wild-card race created for them, the Tampa Bay Rays attempt to complete a three-game series sweep when they visit the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. The Rays posted a 3-1 victory on Saturday to open a 2 1/2-game lead for the second wild card over Cleveland, which lost both games of a doubleheader against Minnesota.
Cincinnati at Arizona 4:10 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks made the most of their lone hit Saturday and ended their six-game losing streak while keeping their slim postseason hopes alive. Arizona hopes to gain some ground in the National League wild card race when it hosts the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game series.
Chi. White Sox at Seattle 4:10 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners host the Chicago White Sox on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game series after getting even in walk-off fashion. Omar Narvaez's deep shot to right-center field appeared to bounce off the yellow line and back into play, but it was ruled a home run off Alex Colome - the player for which he was traded during the offseason - to give Seattle a 2-1 victory in 10 innings.
LA Dodgers at NY Mets 7:05 PM ET
The New York Mets are fighting to stay in the National League wild card race and are going toe-to-toe with the top team in the NL this weekend. The Mets will try to take the rubber match and get a boost in the standings when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers in the finale of a three-game series on Sunday.
