Preview Roundups
September 08, 2019
Texas at Baltimore 1:05 PM ET
Rougned Odor looks as if he might finish an otherwise difficult season on a good note, and the Texas Rangers' second baseman has another chance to lift his meager batting average when his team tries to finish off a four-game sweep of the host Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Odor went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Rangers to a 9-4 win Saturday.
Toronto at Tampa Bay 1:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays continue to get contributions from throughout their roster and look to finish off a four-game sweep of the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon with a welcome sight on the mound. Tyler Glasnow, who was the American League Pitcher of the Month in April before going down with a strained forearm in mid-May, returns to the hill for the Rays in the series finale.
Kansas City at Miami 1:10 PM ET
Jorge Soler set the Kansas City Royals' single-season home run record days ago, and the young slugger may just put the mark out of reach for awhile. Soler homered again - his 41st - and scored twice in the Royals' 7-2 win over the host Miami Marlins on Saturday and will try to lead his team to a sweep of the three-game series Sunday afternoon.
Arizona at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
The red-hot Arizona Diamondbacks clubbed their way to a win in the first game of the series with 12 hits before spinning a shutout one day later, and will try to finish off a road sweep of the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon. The Diamondbacks have won five in a row and 11 of their last 12 contests to move within 1 1/2 games of the Chicago Cubs for the National League’s second wild card.
Philadelphia at NY Mets 1:10 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies built a big enough lead for the bullpen to handle and snapped a three-game slide on Saturday, keeping themselves in the wild card race while dealing a blow to a rival. The Phillies will try to turn the same trick and earn a series win when they visit the New York Mets in the finale of a three-game series on Sunday.
Washington at Atlanta 1:20 PM ET
Part of the reason why the Atlanta Braves are closing in on the National League East title is their ability to hit home runs, and they eye a four-game home sweep of the Washington Nationals on Sunday while closing in on the franchise record for most homers in a season. The Braves belted four homers in Saturday’s 5-4 victory to give them 225 on the season, just 10 off the 2003 team’s record of 235, and more importantly the win pushed their lead over Washington to 10 games.
St. Louis at Pittsburgh 1:35 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals made sure they would not be suffering back-to-back losses for the first time in nearly a month by pummeling the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday and added a game to their lead in the National League Central in the process. The Cardinals will try to clinch a series win when they visit the Pirates for the finale of the three-game series on Sunday.
Seattle at Houston 2:10 PM ET
Houston right-hander Gerrit Cole isn't caught up in the pursuit of his first Cy Young award, but focused only on preparing for the playoffs as the first-place Astros try for their 11th straight victory over the visiting Seattle Mariners on Sunday in the finale of their four-game series. Cole, who will sign a lucrative free-agent contract during the offseason, is riding a 17-game unbeaten streak and along with teammate Justin Verlander forms the most potent duo in the major leagues.
LA Angels at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET
Even with superstar center fielder Mike Trout out of the mix, the Los Angeles Angels continue to dominate the Chicago White Sox. The Angels will try to polish off their second straight sweep in Chicago when the teams conclude a three-game series Sunday afternoon.
Chi. Cubs at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs visit the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday in the finale of their four-game series after receiving some bad news involving Javier Baez. An MRI revealed that the All-Star shortstop and 2018 National League MVP runner-up has a hairline fracture in his left thumb and he'll see a specialist Monday to determine the extent of the injury and how long he'll be out of the lineup.
Cleveland at Minnesota 2:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins look to give themselves a comfortable cushion in the American League Central when they host the second-place Cleveland Indians for the rubber match of a three-game set Sunday afternoon. Mitch Garver launched a three-run homer to snap a tie in the seventh inning Saturday and the Twins earned a 5-3 victory to push their lead to 6 1/2 games in the division.
Detroit at Oakland 4:07 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics try to solidify their grip on the final American League wild card spot when they host the Detroit Tigers on Sunday in the rubber match of their three-game series. Oakland is 1 1/2 games ahead of Cleveland and one behind wild card leader Tampa Bay after Saturday's 10-2 victory extended its starting pitchers' unbeaten streak to 17 - its longest run since a similar stretch in 2004.
San Francisco at LA Dodgers 4:10 PM ET
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy looks to conclude his final visit to Dodger Stadium with a series sweep Sunday when the Giants face the Los Angeles Dodgers. After the Giants began the weekend with Friday’s 5-4 victory, Bochy dove into his deep bullpen in Saturday’s 1-0 win with six relievers in support of starter Tyler Beede.
Colorado at San Diego 4:10 PM ET
The San Diego Padres face the visiting Colorado Rockies on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game series between two of the worst teams in the majors, but it's hardly a meaningless contest for Manny Machado. The four-time All-Star is intent on finishing his first season with San Diego strong and laying the foundation for a playoff run next year.
NY Yankees at Boston 8:05 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox have not been able to use a starting pitcher through the first two games of their series against the rival New York Yankees and staying in the American League wild card race without all their arms healthy is proving to be a challenge. The Red Sox on Sunday try to take the lead in the four-game set when they finally trot out a starting pitcher in Rick Porcello.
