Texas at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
Nick Solak hasn't been able to make a significant impact on his team's fortunes in the win-loss column since his promotion, but the Texas Rangers might not want to think where they would without him. Coming off his first career multi-RBI performance, the 24-year-old tries to stay hot at the plate Friday when the Rangers meet the Orioles for the second of four games in Baltimore.
St. Louis at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals continue pursuit of their first National League Central title since 2015 when they begin a six-game road trip with the first of three against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. First-place St. Louis leads the Chicago Cubs by 2 1/2 games with Thursday's 10-0 rout of San Francisco its sixth victory in seven contests and 21st in 27, prompting Cardinals manager Mike Shildt to tell reporters: "We're just keeping the gas down."
NY Yankees at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The New York Yankees' ability to beat the Boston Red Sox this season may not be the only reason why the defending World Series champions find themselves in dire straits when it comes to their postseason aspirations, but it certainly hasn't helped. The bitter American League East rivals get together for one more series starting Friday when the Red Sox host the opener of a four-game set against the Yankees.
Toronto at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays continue the quest for their first playoff appearance since 2013 as they go for an eighth win in nine contests when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night for the second of a four-game set. Austin Meadows snapped a tie with a solo homer in the seventh inning and the Rays went on to take the series opener 6-4, maintaining a half-game lead on Oakland for the American League’s top wild-card spot.
Kansas City at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Kansas City is among the worst teams in baseball but that hasn't prevented Whit Merrifield from continuing to be a machine at the plate. The second baseman, whose 181 hits lead baseball after pacing the majors with 182 last season, tries for more when the Royals begin a six-game trip with the first of three against the similarly unsuccessful Miami Marlins on Friday.
Arizona at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks have reintroduced themselves as a postseason contender after following up a 3-7 stretch with wins in nine of their last 10 contests. The Diamondbacks aim to continue their ascent on Friday as they begin a seven-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.
Philadelphia at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies entertained reasons for optimism after they ended last weekend with a victory against the New York Mets before extending their winning streak to three games with a pair of lopsided triumphs over Cincinnati. The tables quickly turned as they settled for a four-game split versus the Reds entering the opener of a three-game set against the Mets at Citi Field on Friday.
Washington at Atlanta 7:20 PM ET
Ronald Acuña Jr. entered Thursday with just six hits in his previous 47 at-bats, but the Atlanta Braves outfielder broke out in time to help extend his team’s National League East lead to eight games entering Friday’s home matchup with the Washington Nationals. Acuña homered, stole a base and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as Atlanta captured Thursday’s opener of a critical four-game series with the Nationals 4-2, reducing its magic number to win the East to 15.
Seattle at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros continue their bid for best record in the majors when they host the Seattle Mariners on Friday in the second contest of a four-game set. Michael Brantley belted the decisive two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th inning as Houston overcame a seven-run deficit to post a 11-9 win and improve to 13-1 against Seattle this season.
LA Angels at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels have gotten the better of the Chicago White Sox in recent years and will try to keep that trend alive when the two also-rans meet in the first of three games Friday in the Windy City. The Angels took three of four from the White Sox earlier this season and have won 16 of the 22 meetings, including a three-game sweep in their last visit to Chicago roughly a year ago.
Chi. Cubs at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
Javier Baez hopes to return from a three-game absence when the Chicago Cubs visit the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday in the second contest of a four-game series. Baez (left thumb) was scratched shortly before Thursday's 10-5 victory as Chicago increased its lead to 3 1/2 games over the Arizona Diamondbacks for the National League's second wild-card spot.
Cleveland at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins look to take a stranglehold of the American League Central race when they host the second-place Cleveland Indians on Friday night for the opener of a three-game showdown series. The Twins have won 10 of their last 12 contests after edging Boston 2-1 on Thursday to complete an 8-2 road trip and own a comfortable 6 1/2-game lead over the Indians.
Detroit at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics have unfinished business to tend to before kicking off a three-game set against the visiting Detroit Tigers on Friday night. The Athletics can match a franchise record for consecutive victories over one opponent when they resume a suspended game from May 19 in Detroit before playing the series opener against the worst team in the majors.
San Francisco at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
After losing back-to-back starts to diminish his chances of winning a fourth Cy Young Award, Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw attempts to get back on track when he pitches the opener of a three-game series against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Friday night. Kershaw has more wins (23) against San Francisco than any other opponent.
Colorado at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies are suffering through their longest losing streak in more than four years and will try to prevent it from reaching double digits when they begin a three-game series at the San Diego Padres on Friday. The Rockies' slide hit nine with Wednesday's 7-3 loss at the Los Angeles Dodgers, which was also the ninth straight time Colorado has allowed at least five runs.
