Preview Roundups
August 27, 2019
Baltimore at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals have seized control of the National League wild-card race behind a thundering offense that has lit up the opposition for 41 runs during a five-game winning streak. Winners of 12 of their last 14 contests, Washington will open an eight-game homestand with the first of two against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.
Pittsburgh at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies made significant strides forward in terms of confidence and inched a bit closer to the final wild-card spot in the National League following their stirring 6-5 win in extra innings over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Phillies aim to continue that march on Tuesday when they play the second contest of three-game set versus the visiting Keystone State rival.
Atlanta at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
All Bo Bichette has done since being promoted to the Toronto Blue Jays is hit, and the 21-year-old shortstop hopes to continue swinging a hot bat entering Tuesday’s opener of a two-game home series against the Atlanta Braves. Bichette went 8-for-14 with four runs scored in a three-game series at Seattle last weekend and his 2-for-4 performance in Sunday’s loss gave him 15 multi-hit performances in his first 26 career contests while batting .351 with 14 doubles and 14 RBIs.
Cincinnati at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Freddy Galvis has made himself at home with the Cincinnati Reds since being claimed off waivers by the club two weeks ago. The 29-year-old looks to continue his torrid streak at the plate on Tuesday as the visiting Reds play the second contest of their four-game series against the Miami Marlins.
Cleveland at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians hope to continue their dominance in the season series after suffering two tough setbacks Sunday as they visit the major league-worst Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night for the first of three games. The Indians rallied with four runs in the ninth inning to tie before losing 9-8 to Kansas City in the 10th on Sunday following the news earlier in the day that third baseman Jose Ramirez was out indefinitely with a broken hand.
Chi. Cubs at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
With at least one wild card slot there for the taking, the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets both squandered opportunities to enhance their playoff standing over the weekend. Despite getting swept at home by Washington, the Cubs still hold down the second wild card as they prepare to open a three-game series at the Mets on Tuesday night.
St. Louis at Milwaukee 7:40 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals have feasted on their division rivals during the second half of the season, turning what appeared to a potentially disappointing campaign into one in which they could become a legitimate threat in the postseason. The Cardinals look to continue their recent dominance of National League Central opponents Tuesday when they visit Milwaukee for the second of three games against the Brewers.
Tampa Bay at Houston 8:10 PM ET
Tuesday's opener of a three-game series between the Tampa Bay Rays and host Houston Astros could be an American League Division series preview but will also be a matchup of Cy Young Award contenders. Houston's Justin Verlander - the favorite to win his second Cy Young - faces Charlie Morton, who won 29 games with the Astros in 2017-18 and defeated them in his first start with Tampa Bay.
Minnesota at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are riding their power bats toward an American League Central title and a spot in the postseason and have five weeks left in the regular season to lock things up. The Twins will kick off their longest remaining road trip by visiting the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday for the opener of a three-game series.
Oakland at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
Marcus Semien became the second shortstop in franchise history to record seven RBIs in a game and Matt Chapman also reached a milestone in Oakland's explosive performance in the series opener. The Athletics look to build off a 19-4 rout when they visit the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday for the second contest of their four-game set.
Boston at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
Time is running out for the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox, who visit the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday in the opener of a two-game interleague series. Boston is 7-3 in its last 10 contests after taking two of three in San Diego over the weekend but sits six games behind Tampa Bay and Oakland for the final American League wild card spot with 30 to play.
Arizona at San Francisco 9:45 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks have made themselves right at home at Oracle Park this season, winning six of their eight meetings with the San Francisco Giants at the scenic stadium. The Diamondbacks look to continue the trend on Tuesday, when they conclude their brief two-game series against the Giants.
Texas at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels did not fare well on a seven-game road trip and won't get to spend much time at home before heading out again. The Angels will try to snap a five-game slide when they begin a five-game homestand by hosting the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
LA Dodgers at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
Walker Buehler dominated San Diego earlier this month and looks to have similar results when the Los Angeles Dodgers visit the Padres on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game series. Buehler registered 15 strikeouts - one shy of his career best - while allowing one run and five hits in a complete-game victory over San Diego at home on Aug. 3.
NY Yankees at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
The New York Yankees have received offensive contributions from nearly every player who has put on the uniform this season, regardless of experience or star status. Mike Ford has been filling the bill of late, and he hopes to continue his recent surge when the Yankees visit the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game series.
