Baltimore at San Diego 3:40 PM ET
Manny Machado looks for one last solid performance against his former team this season when the San Diego Padres conclude their two-game series against the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday afternoon. Machado recorded three hits and scored twice in Monday's 8-1 victory and is 6-for-12 with a homer and two walks in four games against the organization for which he played from 2012-18.
Atlanta at Washington 7:05 PM ET
Anthony Rendon will be one of the top targets on the free-agent market this winter, but the Washington Nationals' third baseman hopes to make what might be his final season in the nation’s capital with a bang entering the middle contest of a three-game home series against the Atlanta Braves. Rendon blasted a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning of Monday’s series-opening 6-3 victory that pulled the Nationals within 4 1/2 games of Atlanta in the National League East standings.
Arizona at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees turn the page on what was a historically bad week and take a break from playing their archrivals as they host the Arizona Diamondbacks for a two-game series beginning Tuesday. New York became the first team in American League history to allow 70-plus runs (73) and 20 or more home runs (23) in a seven-game span before salvaging the finale of its four-game series in Boston with a 9-6 victory Sunday.
San Francisco at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants have won 19 of their last 24 games to insert themselves into wild-card discussion in the National League. The surging Giants aim to improve their standing in the conversation on Tuesday when they open a three-game series against the host Philadelphia Phillies.
Tampa Bay at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox are locked in a duel for second place in the American League East and, more importantly, one of the two wild cards. Reigning World Series champion Boston took two of three in Tampa Bay last week and sits one-half game behind the Rays entering the opener of a three-game set on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.
Houston at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros and host Cleveland Indians are putting their best foot (arm?) forward to begin their three-game series on Tuesday, with the visitors sending Justin Verlander to the mound to oppose fellow right-hander Shane Bieber. Verlander has surrendered just four earned runs during his three-start winning streak while Bieber is coming off his second complete game of the season.
Minnesota at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins' homer-happy offense has kept them atop the American League Central for the bulk of the season, while the Miami Marlins' inability to hit them consistently has been among the reasons why they reside in the National League East basement. The Twins attempt to maintain their historic home run pace Tuesday when they visit Miami for the opener of a three-game interleague set with the Marlins.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates began the second half of the season in nightmarish fashion, but only the former has awakened from its bad dream. The Reds hope to continue their recent surge and attempt to make some more headway in the National League Central on Tuesday when they continue a three-game home set against the floundering Pirates.
Seattle at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers have severely hurt their wild-card chances with some poor play in July, but perhaps a homestand against some lesser opponents will help keep them afloat into August. The Rangers begin a five-game stay in Arlington against a pair of last-place teams when they host the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday for the first of two games.
NY Mets at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The New York Mets brought in one starting pitcher Sunday and sent another packing Monday, leaving speculation to swirl that Noah Syndergaard could be making his last start with the team in Tuesday's opener of a three-game series at the Chicago White Sox. New York has won four in a row after completing a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Chi. Cubs at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The race for the National League Central division crown intensifies Tuesday night in St. Louis, where the Cardinals host the rival Chicago Cubs in the opener of a big three-game set. The teams enter the series tied atop the division and just a game up on Milwaukee, which pays a visit to the Cubs this coming weekend.
Toronto at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
After the Toronto Blue Jays squandered a two-run lead in the sixth inning of the series opener, Cavan Biggio decided to take matters into his own hands. The 24-year-old rookie attempts to help Toronto clinch a series victory when it visits the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game set.
LA Dodgers at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies are trying to remain in the National League wild-card race as they attempt to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday for the second straight night. Colorado rolled to a 9-1 victory over the Dodgers in the opener of the three-game series and sits seven games out of the second wild-card spot due to its recent slump.
Detroit at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers look to post back-to-back victories for the first time snce the end of May when they visit the Los Angeles Angels on Monday for the second contest of their four-game series. Detroit recorded a series-opening 7-2 triumph on Monday, ending its losing streak at six games.
Milwaukee at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
Milwaukee began addressing its injury-depleted starting rotation by reacquiring Jordan Lyles from Pittsburgh on Monday, but more moves could be coming as the Brewers begin a nine-game road trip with three against the Oakland Athletics beginning Tuesday. Milwaukee lost Brandon Woodruff and Jhoulys Chacin last week and Gio Gonzalez left his last start because of shoulder tightness, leaving the Brewers in dire straits.
