Preview Roundups
July 29, 2019
Atlanta at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals host the Atlanta Braves in an important three-game series starting Monday, pitting two of the best teams in baseball since May 24 against each other as the hours tick toward Wednesday’s trade deadline. The Braves are 34-21 since May 24 after taking two of three games at Philadelphia and lead the National League East by 5 1/2 games over the Nationals, who are 37-18 since that date despite losing two of three to the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend.
Arizona at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Miguel Rojas has been starting the Miami Marlins on the right foot in each of the last two games, as the 30-year-old became the second player in franchise history to belt a leadoff homer in back-to-back outings. Rojas and the Marlins hope to finish strong in their four-game series against Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday when the clubs reconvene in Miami.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates have lost eight in a row and 14 of their last 16 since the All-Star break to plummet in the National League Central standings. The Pirates aim to end their pronounced slide and continue their success this season versus the Reds on Monday when the division rivals open a three-game series in Cincinnati.
Toronto at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
One day after the Kansas City Royals continued to dip their toe into the trade market waters by dealing a key reliever, the Toronto Blue Jays created a much bigger splash by trading away their ace and leadoff hitter. Two American League teams with identical records who appear to have resigned themselves to playing for next year meet up for the second time in a month beginning Monday when the Royals host the Blue Jays in the opener of a three-game set.
LA Dodgers at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers look to become the first team in the majors to reach 70 wins and continue their mastery in the season series when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Monday for the opener of a three-game set. The Dodgers missed a chance for a three-game sweep after an 11-4 loss at Washington on Sunday but still own the majors’ best record (69-38) and have won eight of 10 versus the Rockies in 2019.
Detroit at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels are trying to remain in striking distance of an American League wild-card spot and look to take advantage of the major league-worst Detroit Tigers when they continue a seven-game homestand with the first of three contests on Monday. The Angels avoided a four-game sweep with a 5-4 victory over Baltimore on Sunday thanks to a walk-off homer by rookie Matt Thaiss.
Baltimore at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
After entering the All-Star break with a realistic chance to end their 12-year playoff drought, the San Diego Padres have watched their postseason dreams take a beating in the second half of the season. The Padres hope to avoid falling a season-worst eight games under .500 on Monday when they begin a two-game interleague set against the visiting Baltimore Orioles.
