July 28, 2020
Chi. White Sox at Cleveland 3:40 PM ET
Jose Ramirez started last year with a prolonged batting slump and it does not appear the Cleveland Indians slugger is destined to match that in this shortened 60-game, 2020 campaign. Ramirez is 5-for-12 with a pair of homers and five RBIs to open the season as the Indians prepare to host the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday for a doubleheader after Monday’s contest was postponed due to rain.
Toronto at Washington 6:05 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays flashed some power in taking the opener of a four-game stretch against the world champs and will aim for their first set of consecutive wins this season when they take on the host Washington Nationals again Tuesday night. Teoscar Hernandez slugged two of the Blue Jays' four solo homers in a 4-1 win over the Nationals on Monday.
NY Yankees at Philadelphia 6:05 PM ET
The only game the Philadelphia Phillies ended up playing on Monday was the waiting game, an unfortunate consequence after a very public coronavirus outbreak occurred involving the team's opponent in its season-opening series. After seeing its series opener postponed, the Phillies hope for the best both on and off the field on Tuesday when they begin their two-city series versus the visiting New York Yankees.
Chi. Cubs at Cincinnati 6:40 PM ET
Anthony Rizzo owns a relatively modest .273 batting average, but his .579 on-base percentage and 1.091 slugging percentage tell a much different story about how productive he has been out of the No. 2 spot in the batting order. The three-time All-Star sets his sights on hitting a home run for the fourth time in five games Tuesday when the Chicago Cubs continue their four-game set in Cincinnati versus the Reds.
Atlanta at Tampa Bay 6:40 PM ET
Hunter Renfroe averaged just over 28 homers across his first three full big league seasons, and the right fielder put the Tampa Bay Rays into position to sweep a two-game home series from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday with his first two longballs for his new team. Renfroe, acquired from San Diego via a December trade, finished 3-for-5 in Monday’s 14-5 victory, belting a three-run homer to kick off an eight-run fourth inning as Tampa Bay won its third consecutive game.
Milwaukee at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
Christian Yelich has never gone through a skid like this before, but on Monday he had Ryan Braun and Eric Sogard there to pick him up. Even with a struggling Yelich, the Milwaukee Brewers will try to reach 3-2 on their six-game road trip to begin the season when they continue a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
Kansas City at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals featured the second-worst offense in the American League a year ago and arrived in Detroit having pushed across only five runs in their first three games. The Royals broke out of their funk with a barrage of home runs in the series opener and look to keep the bats going in the second of a four-game set against the Tigers on Tuesday night.
Chi. White Sox at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
NY Mets at Boston 7:30 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox were hoping to take advantage of the first week of their schedule before hitting a stretch of 16 consecutive games against what figures to be the top three teams in the American League East. Instead, the Red Sox are flailing after an impressive season opener and look to avoid a fourth straight defeat versus the visiting New York Mets on Tuesday night.
St. Louis at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins set a major league record with 307 home runs last season and the offense might be even better in 2020. The Twins put up 27 runs in taking two of their first three games and will try to bash their way to another win when they host the St. Louis Cardinals in the home opener on Tuesday.
Arizona at Texas 9:05 PM ET
Just about everything went wrong for the Texas Rangers after opening the season with a shutout victory as they struggled with the bats in two straight losses and watched their ace pitcher go down with an injury. The Rangers hope for some positives Tuesday night when they open a two-game series against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.
LA Dodgers at Houston 9:10 PM ET
The visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston face one another Tuesday for the first time since it was revealed that the Astros were stealing signs during the 2017 season. That campaign concluded with Houston beating Los Angeles in the World Series and the tension will be hanging in the air during the two-game series.
Colorado at Oakland 9:40 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics won't win 97 games for a third straight season but are on pace for 45, which will be plenty to reach the playoffs again. Oakland looks to continue its quick start - paramount in a season shortened to 60 games because of the COVID-19 virus - when it hosts the Colorado Rockies in a two-game interleague series beginning Tuesday.
Seattle at LA Angels 9:40 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels look to get their bats moving when they host the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game set in Anaheim. The Angels scored just 11 runs while losing three of four to start the season versus the Oakland Athletics, including Monday's 3-0 defeat.
San Diego at San Francisco 9:45 PM ET
Following a stumble out of the gate, the San Francisco Giants will carry some positive vibes into their home opener Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres. The Giants dropped their first two games by a combined score of 17-2 before rebounding to top the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday and Sunday to split the four-game set.
