Preview Roundups
July 27, 2019
Tampa Bay at Toronto 3:07 PM ET
Travis d’Arnaud was cast off by two organizations earlier this season, but he has found a home in the middle of the Tampa Bay Rays’ lineup and hopes to continue his hot streak in the second of a three-game series at the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. The New York Mets released d’Arnaud and the Los Angeles Dodgers traded him to the Rays, who have received 11 homers and 35 RBIs from the former first-round pick in 47 games after a two-run single in Friday’s 3-1 win.
NY Yankees at Boston 4:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees arrived in Boston owning the best record in the majors and holding a commanding lead in the American League East, but there are plenty of reasons for alarm -- namely a starting rotation that is in shambles. New York looks to veteran CC Sabathia to provide a solid outing in the third of a four-game series versus the Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.
LA Dodgers at Washington 4:05 PM ET
With the exception of teams within the National League West, Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw has enjoyed more success against the Washington Nationals than any other opponent. The three-time Cy Young Award winner will look to pad those numbers when the visiting Dodgers continue a three-game series against the Nationals on Saturday afternoon.
Detroit at Seattle 4:10 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners have fired off three straight victories and look to record another triumph when they host the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon for the third contest of their four-game series. The Mariners came away with a 3-2 victory on Friday, giving them their first three-game winning streak since June 23-26.
Arizona at Miami 6:10 PM ET
With their upcoming schedule littered with serious playoff contenders, the Arizona Diamondbacks could not afford to stub their toe this week against two of the worst teams in baseball. The Diamondbacks attempt to bounce back from a disheartening loss and try to avoid falling under .500 on Saturday when they visit Miami for the second of four games versus the Marlins.
Atlanta at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies had won 15 of their past 25 games entering a big weekend set at home against the National League East-leading Atlanta Braves, but come into Saturday after a sloppy performance sent them to a 9-2 defeat in the series opener. The Phillies committed two errors, saw starter Jake Arrieta give up five runs, and reliever Cole Irvin walk in two runs to lose for just the second time in seven games and drop 6 1/2 games behind Atlanta in the standings.
Minnesota at Chi. White Sox 7:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are taking out their frustrations on the Chicago White Sox after faltering in their home series against the New York Yankees, setting home-run records in the process. Minnesota attempts to continue its power surge when it visits Chicago on Saturday for the third contest of their four-game series.
Chi. Cubs at Milwaukee 7:10 PM ET
The rotation has been an issue for the Milwaukee Brewers all season long with a 4.78 ERA and only 26 quality starts in 105 games, and things may be on the verge of getting worse. The Brewers hope to overcome yet another injury to a starting pitcher and turn to one of their few healthy ones Saturday when they host the Chicago Cubs in the second of three games against their reeling National League Central rival.
Colorado at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies own their first winning streak in nearly a month and will try to stretch it to three in a row for the first time since mid-June when they continue a three-game series at the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. The Rockies snapped a three-game slide with an 8-7 win at Washington on Thursday before opening the set against the Reds with a 12-2 triumph.
Pittsburgh at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets broke out of a brief power slump with four home runs in the opener of a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Mets will try to put forth another home run-heavy performance when the teams continue the set Saturday at Citi Field.
Houston at St. Louis 7:15 PM ET
Gerrit Cole looks to win his eighth consecutive decision when the Houston Astros visit the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-series. Cole has reached double digits in strikeouts seven times during an 11-start unbeaten streak that has followed a loss to the Chicago White Sox on May 22.
Cleveland at Kansas City 7:15 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians continue on the hunt for first place in the American League Central while solidifying their wild-card spot as they go for a 12th win in 14 games Saturday night when they visit the Kansas City Royals. Red-hot Jose Ramirez launched a three-run homer and Francisco Lindor extended his hitting streak to eight games as the Indians rolled to an 8-3 victory over the Royals on Friday in the second of a four-game set.
San Francisco at San Diego 8:40 PM ET
Another extra-inning game, another victory for the streaking San Francisco Giants, who have emerged as buyers ahead of next week’s trade deadline. The Giants continue their three-game series against the host San Diego Padres on Saturday after improving to 6-0 in extra frames since the All-Star break with Friday’s 11-inning, 2-1 victory.
Baltimore at LA Angels 9:07 PM ET
If the Los Angeles Angels fail to reach the postseason for the fifth straight year, they may look back at this week as the turning point. Just days after reaching new heights with a two-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Angels continue their four-game series against the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Saturday stuck in a mini-tailspin.
Texas at Oakland 9:07 PM ET
The struggling Oakland Athletics hope to avoid their sixth loss in seven contests when they continue their four-game series against the visiting Texas Rangers on Saturday. Oakland won 11 of its first 14 games this month before hitting the skids and look to halt a three-game slide during which it has been outscored 20-7.
