Preview Roundups
July 26, 2020
NY Yankees at Washington 1:05 PM ET
Despite being hit with more bad news on the injury front, the Washington Nationals were able to break into the win column for the first time this year Saturday night. The defending World Series champions will try to build off the victory when they battle the visiting New York Yankees on Sunday in the rubber match of their three-game series.
Miami at Philadelphia 1:05 PM ET
Didi Gregorius chose to bet on himself in the offseason when he accepted a one-year contract from the Philadelphia Phillies following a down season that ended with Tommy John surgery. It's looking like a prudent move so far for the 30-year-old shortstop, who will attempt to homer for the third time in as many games with his new club Sunday as the Phillies attempt to take the rubber match of a three-game home set with the Miami Marlins.
Kansas City at Cleveland 1:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals took advantage of the new extra-inning rule in their last time out and can leave Cleveland with a series victory Sunday afternoon when they take on the Indians in the rubber match of the season-opening three-game set. Newcomer Maikel Franco lifted a sacrifice fly to score pinch runner Brett Phillips in the 10th inning Saturday as the Royals earned a 3-2 win.
Detroit at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
Cincinnati's Trevor Bauer wants to work every four days and is trying to talk pitching coach Derek Johnson and manager David Bell into letting that happen. Bauer makes his first start of the season Sunday when the Reds host the Detroit Tigers in the rubber match of their season-opening three-game series with Johnson telling WKRC in Cincinnati: "I trust Trevor, I trust what kind of work he puts in, you know, invests in himself. ..."
Toronto at Tampa Bay 1:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays expect to contend for the American League East title this season and winning their first series would be a step in the right direction. The Rays will try to ride their strong pitching to a second consecutive triumph when they host the Toronto Blue Jays in the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday.
Baltimore at Boston 1:35 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox knew going into the season that starting pitching depth was an issue, and it only took two games for the team to miss the likes of Eduardo Rodriguez, Chris Sale, Rick Porcello and David Price. The Red Sox will take a chance on another unproven starter and try to earn the win in the rubber match when they host the Baltimore Orioles in the finale of a three-game series on Sunday.
Minnesota at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins at their own game Saturday, leveling the series against the defending American League Central champs with an impressive power display. After ending a five-game home losing streak to the Twins with a 10-3 drubbing, the White Sox take aim at a series victory in Sunday afternoon's finale of a three-game set against Minnesota.
Seattle at Houston 2:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros look to continue their dominance against the visiting Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon when the teams convene for the third of a four-game series. The Astros have won 15 straight versus the Mariners - the longest streak against any team in their history - after getting at least a hit from everyone in the lineup during Saturday’s 7-2 win.
Pittsburgh at St. Louis 2:15 PM ET

Jack Flaherty and Adam Wainwright provided the St. Louis Cardinals with what they needed in the first two games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dakota Hudson will try to do his part for the host Cardinals as they attempt to complete an opening season-series sweep of their three-game set with the Pirates on Sunday.

Milwaukee at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers have had trouble mustering offense at Wrigley Field since the start of the 2018 season, failing to produce more than two runs in 13 of 20 visits. The Brewers finally snapped out of that funk in Saturday's 8-3 rout of the Chicago Cubs and will go for a series victory in Sunday afternoon's rubber match between the National League Central rivals.
Colorado at Texas 2:35 PM ET
Two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber makes his Rangers debut - and first start since May 1, 2019 - when Texas hosts the Colorado Rockies on Sunday in the rubber match of their season-opening three-game series. Kluber fractured his right arm after being hit by a line drive off the bat of Miami's Brian Anderson and his season was over for good after straining an oblique muscle in August.
Arizona at San Diego 4:10 PM ET
The San Diego Padres played the Arizona Diamondbacks 19 times last season and averaged a meager 3.4 runs, scoring three runs or fewer 10 times. The Padres have had no such issues at the plate in 2020 despite an offseason like any other, and will attempt to remain a well-oiled machine offensively Sunday when they host the Diamondbacks in the third contest of their four-game set.
LA Angels at Oakland 4:10 PM ET
Shohei Ohtani makes his return to the mound Sunday to lead the Los Angeles Angels into the rubber match of a three-game series against the host Oakland Athletics. Ohtani, the dynamic two-way talent from Japan, was 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA in 10 starts for the Angels in 2018 before serving exclusively as a designated hitter last year following Tommy John surgery.
Atlanta at NY Mets 7:08 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves signed Marcell Ozuna in the offseason to offset the loss of Josh Donaldson, and that move has paid immediate dividends entering Sunday’s finale of their season-opening series at the New York Mets. The Braves scored only one run on seven hits across the first 17 2/3 innings of the series before Ozuna lined a two-strike, two-out, game-tying homer in the ninth inning of a 5-3, 10-inning victory, as the Braves scored three times in the 10th.
San Francisco at LA Dodgers 10:08 PM ET
After being outscored 17-2 in their first two games, the San Francisco Giants recorded a much-needed win Saturday and hope to salvage a split of their four-game series against the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. Dodgers star Mookie Betts, who signed a 12-year, $365-million contract Wednesday, is looking to get on track after going 2-for-16 in his first three games with his new team.
