Pittsburgh at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs are clinging to a half-game lead atop the congested National League Central despite limping into the All-Star break with losses in 16 of their last 26 contests. The Cubs aim to get back on track on Friday afternoon when they open a three-game series against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, who have won 12 of their last 17 to move within 2 1/2 games of Chicago.
Washington at Philadelphia 6:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals were languishing near the cellar of the National League in late May before winning 28 of their last 39 games to enter the All-Star break in the top wild-card position. The Nationals aim to continue their torrid stretch on Friday when they begin a nine-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Toronto at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees withstood a deluge of injuries to post the best record in the American League at the All-Star break and have a chance to pad their advantage atop the AL East when they open a 10-game homestand against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. New York swept the Blue Jays late last month at Yankee Stadium, although the three games were decided by four runs.
Tampa Bay at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays are trying to fight the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in the American League East and mostly held their own in the first half. The Rays hope to get off to a strong start after the All-Star break when they visit the AL-worst Baltimore Orioles on Friday in the opener of a four-game series.
LA Dodgers at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The second half of the regular season begins with a World Series rematch when the defending champion Boston Red Sox host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday in the opener of a three-game interleague series. While the Dodgers look very much like a team poised to make another run at the pennant, the Red Sox would be left out of the playoffs if the season ended now.
Minnesota at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians have pulled within striking distance of first place in the American League Central and look to make up some more ground when they host the division-leading Minnesota Twins for a three-game series beginning Friday. The Indians have won a season-high six consecutive contests and 11 of 14 to move within 5 1/2 games of the Twins as they start a stretch of 11 straight at home.
NY Mets at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets come out of the All-Star break facing myriad questions about the rest of the season, mainly because they own the second-worst record in the National League. The future of manager Mickey Callaway is one of the hot-button issues for the Mets as they open a nine-game road trip with the first of three at the Miami Marlins on Friday night.
Houston at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers have posted back-to-back victories over American League division leaders after losing six of their previous seven games. The club looks to make it three in a row when it hosts the AL West-leading Houston Astros on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series.
San Francisco at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers limped into the All-Star break with an 8-15 slide, although it didn't have much impact on their positioning in the tightly packed National League Central. The second-place Brewers will try to start the second half of the season on a good note when they begin a three-game series with the visiting San Francisco Giants on Friday.
Arizona at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
Both the Arizona Diamondbacks and host St. Louis Cardinals are lurking just behind the wild-card leaders in the National League as they emerge from the All-Star break to play the opener of a three-game series Friday night. The Diamondbacks swept three games from Colorado prior to the All-Star break to get back above .500 and to within 1 1/2 games of a wild-card spot.
Detroit at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals host the Detroit Tigers on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series between a pair of teams battling to stay out of the cellar in the American League Central. Kansas City lost nine of 11 contests before the All-Star break to sit one game behind - but one percentage point ahead - of Detroit, which was swept in three games by Boston last weekend and has dropped 18 of its past 21 contests overall.
Cincinnati at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies are sliding in the wrong direction as they resume play after the All-Star break by hosting the Cincinnati Reds on Friday in the opener of a three-game series. The Rockies lost their final six games prior to the break and have dropped 11 of their past 15 games to fell one game below .500 at 44-45.
Seattle at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
Mike Trout is enjoying a monster season and also supplying the Los Angeles Angels with hope of making a run at an American League wild-card spot. The Angels are 6 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Indians for the second berth as they resume play after the All-Star break by hosting the Seattle Mariners on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.
Chi. White Sox at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics wrapped up the first half of the season about as well as any team in the majors, winning each of their last four series to leave themselves in great shape to keep the heat on the American League wild-card leaders. The Athletics set their sights on a 10th victory in their last 13 contests Friday when they host the Chicago White Sox in the opener of a three-game set.
Atlanta at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
The All-Star break came at the right time for Fernando Tatis Jr., as the San Diego Padres rookie shortstop used the four days off to rest a sore left elbow in advance of Friday’s home series opener against the Atlanta Braves. Hit on the elbow by a pitch Saturday, Tatis responded Sunday by becoming the youngest Padre to record a multi-homer game with two longballs, the 13th and 14th homers of the season for the 20-year-old who is hitting .327 with a 1.013 OPS.
