Preview Roundups
July 06, 2019
Texas at Minnesota 2:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are on an historic home run pace and are powering their way toward the All-Star break in first place in the American League Central. The Twins will try to keep the home runs coming and clinch a series win when they host the Texas Rangers on Saturday in the second of a three-game set.
Baltimore at Toronto 3:07 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles are on pace to have the worst record in the majors for the second straight year, but they at least have managed to solve a hex against one American League East rival. The Orioles lost all 10 meetings in Toronto in 2018 but can post their second series victory at Rogers Centre this season with a win over the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.
Kansas City at Washington 4:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals' turnaround that began a little over a month ago largely coincides with the beginning of another vintage stretch of dominance by ace Max Scherzer. The three-time Cy Young Award winner looks to keep his surge going while helping the Nationals bounce back from a rare loss when he takes the hill Saturday in the second contest of a three-game series with the visiting Kansas City Royals.
Milwaukee at Pittsburgh 4:05 PM ET
If not for their ability to take care of business against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Milwaukee Brewers would be in a very different situation in the National League Central division. Instead, the Brewers are alone in first place entering the second game of three straight at Pittsburgh on Saturday.
NY Yankees at Tampa Bay 4:10 PM ET
The New York Yankees are trying to put the American League East out of reach before they even get to the All-Star break and are doing a fine job of turning away their closest competitors. The East-leading Yankees will try to clinch a series win when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays for the third of a four-game series on Saturday afternoon.
Miami at Atlanta 4:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves seem to always find a way against the Miami Marlins, even when they aren’t able to unleash their normally prolific offense, and enter Saturday’s middle contest of a three-game home series looking to beat their National League East rival for the 10th time in 11 meetings this season. Atlanta mustered just five hits Friday, but squeezed out a 1-0 victory on Brian McCann’s walkoff single in the ninth inning to extend the Braves division lead to 6 1/2 games.
Cleveland at Cincinnati 4:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians looked like a team closer to being a seller than a playoff contender about a month ago, but have fought back with 19 wins in their last 27 games as they prepare to visit the Cincinnati Reds to open a two-game interleague set Saturday. The Indians, who hold down the American League’s second wild card spot, have won four in a row after scoring six times in the seventh inning for an 8-4 victory at Kansas City on Thursday.
Boston at Detroit 4:10 PM ET
Right-hander Rick Porcello had a ready response after the Boston Red Sox posted their 26th comeback win Thursday in Toronto, telling reporters: “It means we need to do a better job of pitching and not giving up runs early.” Porcello will get a chance to lead by example when Boston resumes a three-game set at the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
LA Angels at Houston 7:15 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels halted a seven-game slide against Houston in the series opener and look to follow up with another triumph when they visit the Astros on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Mike Trout hit his 26th homer to increase his lead in the American League as the Angels belted four shots in Friday's 5-4 victory.
Philadelphia at NY Mets 7:15 PM ET
The bullpen has been a sore subject for the New York Mets for the majority of the season, but no team has enjoyed facing it more of late than the Philadelphia Phillies. The visiting Phillies hope to get another extended shot at New York's beleaguered relief corps on Saturday as they look to extend their winning streak against their National League East rival to seven when the clubs meet for the middle contest of their three-game series.
Chi. Cubs at Chi. White Sox 7:15 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs look to finish the last week before the All-Star break on a strong note when they travel across town to meet the improving Chicago White Sox on Saturday night to open a two-game interleague set. The Cubs snapped a four-game losing streak with an 11-3 triumph at Pittsburgh on Thursday and began Friday in a tie for the top spot in the National League Central despite going 9-15 in their last 24 contests.
St. Louis at San Francisco 10:05 PM ET
After struggling at the plate last month, the St. Louis Cardinals have rediscovered their offense during the first week of July. The Cardinals continue their three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants on Saturday after belting nine homers in their last four contests.
San Diego at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
The San Diego Padres have struggled in the season series but hope to ride the momentum of a win when they visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. Hunter Renfroe clubbed a tie-breaking homer in the eighth inning as the Padres recorded a 3-2 victory on Friday in the second contest of the four-game set to improve to 2-5 versus the Dodgers this year.
Colorado at Arizona 10:10 PM ET
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker was mired in a 2-for-22 slump with nine strikeouts over his previous seven games, and then the Colorado Rockies came to town. Walker erupted for a career-high five RBIs and enjoyed his first multi-homer game in Arizona's series-opening 8-0 victory and hopes to keep slugging when the club hosts Colorado on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series.
Oakland at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
Considering how they've been playing of late, the Oakland Athletics probably would like to postpone the upcoming All-Star break. Oakland seeks its ninth victory in 11 games when it visits the Seattle Mariners on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series.
