Slugger Joey Gallo has made the most of his matchups with the last-place Kansas City Royals and looks to continue to do damage when he leads the Texas Rangers into the third of a four-game series Saturday afternoon. Niko Goodrum grew up in the Atlanta suburbs and he shined in his first major league game in his hometown Friday, posting a career-high five-hit performance as the Detroit Tigers won their third straight entering Saturday’s contest at the Braves. The 27-year-old Goodrum recorded two homers, a double, four runs scored and three RBIs in an 8-2 series-opening victory, giving him hits in 10 of his last 11 games and homers in two of his past three contests.

The Washington Nationals have been a huge nemesis for Cincinnati over the past three years, but the Reds turned the tables in the opener of their three-game series. After ending an eight-game losing streak at home versus Washington, Cincinnati will look to post back-to-back wins over the Nationals for the first time since June 3-4, 2016, when the three-game set resumes Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees spent all of 2018 chasing the Boston Red Sox in the American League East and are turning the tables in 2019. The Yankees will try to increase their lead over their rivals when they host the Red Sox in the second of a rain-shortened three-game series on Saturday.

The St. Louis Cardinals have won consecutive games for the first time in a month and can end an eight-series winless stretch Saturday night when they host the National League Central-rival Chicago Cubs. The Cardinals managed just five hits Friday, but two of them came in the bottom of the 10th as Kolten Wong doubled and scored on Matt Carpenter’s walk-off single.

The slumping Seattle Mariners have won just three of their last 15 games as they host the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday for the third contest of their four-game set. Seattle recorded a 4-3 victory in Friday's series opener to halt a three-game slide during which it allowed 28 runs.

The Colorado Rockies have been nearly unstoppable thus far on their 10-game homestand, winning seven of the first eight contests. They vie for their seventh consecutive victory Saturday when they host the Toronto Blue Jays in the middle contest of their three-game interleague series.

After breaking even on their six-game road trip, the San Diego Padres have picked up right where they left off at home. San Diego aims for its fifth consecutive victory at Petco Park when it hosts the Miami Marlins on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers flexed their muscles in the series opener and will try to make it two straight over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday in a battle of first-place teams. Los Angeles, which leads baseball with 39 victories and has won 11 of its last 15 games against Philadelphia at Chavez Ravine, belted four homers in Friday's 6-3 triumph - its third straight and seven in the last eight contests.
NY Mets at Arizona 10:10 PM ET
The New York Mets are struggling on the road but the Arizona Diamondbacks are having problems everywhere as the clubs meet Saturday in Phoenix in the middle contest of their three-game set. New York (28-29), which hasn't won a series in Arizona since 2014, prevailed for only the fourth time in its last 19 away games with a 5-4 victory Friday while the Diamondbacks (28-30) dropped their fifth straight and fell to 3-10 in their last 13 contests after another close loss.
