Preview Roundups
May 11, 2019
Seattle at Boston 1:05 PM ET
A dismal season-opening road trip is becoming a distant memory for the Boston Red Sox, who overcame a 2-8 start to move above .500 for the first time and are sitting only four games out of first place in the American League East. Winners of nine of their last 11, resurgent Boston continues its four-game series against the visiting Seattle Mariners on Saturday afternoon.
Detroit at Minnesota 2:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are clicking on all cylinders at the moment, making this weekend a bad time for the Detroit Tigers and their American League-worst offense to pay a visit. The Twins had little problem roughing up the Tigers in the opener of their four-game series, and they'll attempt to remain undefeated against their ALCentral rivals this season when they host a split doubleheader on Saturday.
Pittsburgh at St. Louis 2:15 PM ET
After playing a flurry of games dominated by offense, the Pittsburgh Pirates finally showed they could prevail in a tight, low-scoring content -- and knocking off their biggest nemesis was a bonus. The Pirates will continue a four-game set in St. Louis on Saturday afternoon after leveling the series and beating the Cardinals for the first time in four attempts this season.
Milwaukee at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers were hovering around the .500 mark in late April before getting their act together, and now look to take over sole possession of first place in the National League Central when they visit the division-rival Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers’ pitching staff boasts a 1.50 ERA during a season-high seven-game winning streak after Friday’s 7-0 victory drew them into a virtual tie with the Cubs atop the NL Central.
Chi. White Sox at Toronto 3:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays just needed a couple big swings and plenty of help from the bullpen to snap a five-game slide. The Blue Jays will try to save that bullpen and get some length out of the starter when they host the Chicago White Sox for the second of a three-game series on Saturday.
LA Angels at Baltimore 4:05 PM ET
Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout met one of his biggest fans before the series opener at the Baltimore Orioles on Friday and broke out of a power slump. Trout will try to lead the Angels to a second straight series win when they visit the Orioles for the second of a three-game series on Saturday.
Cleveland at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
Matt Chapman capped a 2-for-5 performance with a leadoff home run in the 12th inning on Friday, giving the Oakland Athletics a 4-3 victory. The Athletics hope to avoid extra frames when they host the Cleveland Indians for the middle contest of their three-game series.
NY Yankees at Tampa Bay 6:10 PM ET
The New York Yankees needed several role players to step up in order to stay in the race while many of their key offensive players ended up on the injured list the first six weeks of the season, and Gio Urshela has been at the front of the class. Urshela looks to continue producing in the clutch as the Yankees attempt to move into first place in the American League East when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
Miami at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets find themselves in prime position to make up for their recent poor play by taking advantage of five straight series against opponents with losing records. The Mets made a statement in the first of those contests by breaking out offensively in Friday's series opener against the Miami Marlins, putting themselves in position to win their first series in five tries when they continue their three-game home set on Saturday.
Philadelphia at Kansas City 7:15 PM ET
Alex Gordon continues to enjoy an outstanding start for the Kansas City Royals, who have a chance to claim a series win for the first time in nearly a month when they continue a three-game set with the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Gordon homered twice and drove in three runs to lead the Royals to a 5-1 victory in the opener of the interleague set Friday night.
Texas at Houston 8:10 PM ET
Jose Altuve appears unlikely to play due to a hamstring injury when the Houston Astros attempt to defeat the visiting Texas Rangers for the third straight night on Saturday. Altuve departed Friday's 3-0 victory in the first inning after beating out a grounder for an infield single.
Atlanta at Arizona 8:10 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves need all they can get from Ronald Acuna Jr. and hope a return to the top of the order keeps him moving in the right direction. Acuna has homered in two of his last three games - he was robbed of one in the other - and tries to continue his power surge when Atlanta visits the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.
San Diego at Colorado 8:10 PM ET
The San Diego Padres have already recorded an impressive seven series victories, but need to jump-start their offense in order to add to that figure this weekend. The Padres continue their three-game set against the host Colorado Rockies on Saturday after going 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position in Friday’s 12-2 loss.
Detroit at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins seemingly are clicking on all cylinders at the moment, making this weekend a bad time for the Detroit Tigers and their American League-worst offense to pay a visit. The Twins had little problem dispatching the Tigers in the opener of their four-game series, and they'll attempt to remain undefeated against their AL Central rivals this season when they host the nightcap of a split doubleheader on Saturday.
Cincinnati at San Francisco 9:05 PM ET
After recording consecutive shutout wins for the first time since 2016, the Cincinnati Reds turn to Anthony DeSclafani on Saturday when they continue their three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants. Luis Castillo struck out 11 batters over six scoreless innings in Friday’s 7-0 victory as Cincinnati improved to 2-2 on its six-game road trip.
Washington at LA Dodgers 9:10 PM ET
Max Scherzer looks to halt a stretch of five straight winless starts when the Washington Nationals visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday for the third contest of their four-game series. Scherzer recorded his lone victory in eight outings this year on April 7 and has gone 0-2 with three no-decisions since.
