Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane scored two goals apiece, and the San Jose Sharks easily defeated the Flyers 8-2 Tuesday night in Philadelphia's home opener.

San Jose also got tallies from Logan Couture, Tomas Hertl, Timo Meier and Barclay Goodrow.

Kevin Labanc contributed a career-high four assists for the Sharks, who looked sharp without injured Joe Thornton. The veteran center is on injured reserve for at least a week due to swelling in his right knee.

Aaron Dell stopped 31 shots for the Sharks, who have alternated losses and wins in their first four games.

Shayne Gostisbehere and Wayne Simmonds each scored for the Flyers, who dropped their second in a row after a season-opening win at Las Vegas.

Flyers goaltender Brian Elliott struggled mightily, allowing eight goals for the first time in his career. However, he made 40 saves.

The Flyers played without left winger James van Riemsdyk, who is expected to miss five to six weeks with a lower-body injury sustained Saturday in a 5-2 loss at Colorado.

The Sharks struck quickly and took away any momentum the Flyers may have had on opening night at home with two goals in 11 seconds. Couture scored at 3:17 of the first period, and Pavelski followed at 3:28. Pavelski scored again at 12:21, and Kane gave the Sharks a 4-0 advantage at 16:42 with a power-play goal.

San Jose peppered Elliott with 23 shots in the first period.

The Flyers finally got on the board at 4:56 of the second on a power-play goal by Gostisbehere. However, the Sharks kept the pressure on and increased their lead to 5-1 on Kane's second goal at 14:46. Kane already has four goals this season.

Philadelphia was able to muster more of an offensive push and trailed 31-21 in shots at the end of the second though it trailed by four goals.

Travis Konecny fired a shot off the post on an early Philadelphia power play in the third period, the third post hit in the game by the Flyers.

The Sharks came back and moved ahead 6-1 with their second power-play goal by Hertl at 3:27 of the third. Hertl was wide open in front of the goal. Meier and Goodrow added late goals before Simmonds hit the net on a power play in the final two minutes.
