Mathew Barzal and Anders Lee scored within a six-second span in the second period to lead the New York Islanders to a 5-3 road win over the Ottawa Senators on Friday.

The Islanders have won three straight over the course of a five-game (3-0-2) points streak.

Kyle Palmieri and Oliver Wahlstrom had a goal and an assist for New York, while Alexander Romanov had two assists. Brock Nelson also had two assists, giving the forward eight points (four goals, four assists) over a five-game points streak.

Simon Holmstrom added an insurance goal for New York at 5:18 of the third period.

Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 28 of 31 shots, including a pair of spectacular saves on Drake Batherson and Tim Stutzle in the last two minutes of regulation.

New York won despite playing almost the entire game with only four defensemen. Adam Pelech and Sebastian Aho suffered injuries within the first three minutes the first period and didn't return to the ice.

Batherson scored twice for the Senators, who saw their three-game win streak end. Stutzle had a goal and an assist and Mathieu Joseph had two assists.

Anton Forsberg stopped 21 of 26 shots for Ottawa.

Both teams scored twice during a wild 112-second sequence midway through the second period. Barzal started the flurry with a power-play tally at the 9:51 mark, and Lee followed up just six seconds later after the Islanders won the faceoff and quickly pushed the puck down the ice.

The six-second margin marked the fastest pair of goals allowed in Senators franchise history, and tied Barzal and Lee for the second-fastest pair of goals scored in Islanders history.

With New York leading 4-1 and seemingly in control, the Senators rebounded with some quick-strike offense of their own. Strong forechecking led to a pair of goals from Stutzle and Batherson within a 47-second margin, with Stutzle scoring first 10:56 into the second period.
