Matthew Poitras scored the first two goals of his NHL career in the third period to lift the Boston Bruins past the host Anaheim Ducks 3-1 on Sunday night.

The game was scoreless until Mason McTavish put Anaheim ahead 5:05 into the final frame, but Boston's 19-year-old rookie scored the tying and winning goals within a span of 3:51.

Brad Marchand's empty-netter with 2:34 remaining added insurance for Boston, which is 5-0-0 this season after completing a sweep of its three-game California swing.

Linus Ullmark posted 12 of his 30 saves in the third period to earn the win.

Anaheim suffered its third straight loss despite McTavish logging his 50th career point with the goal, while John Gibson stopped 23 shots.

The teams combined to go 0-for-8 on the power play and log 33 hits. Boston had five of the man-up opportunities.

McTavish broke the scoreless tie with a two-on-one transition finish, burying a rebound of Ryan Strome's shot that Ullmark kicked out to the net front.

Poitras knotted the score at 1-1 just 1:24 later, slotting home Morgan Geekie's slick backhand feed through traffic as Poitras ran down the slot to the top of the crease.

Poitras gave Boston its first lead at 10:20 of the final frame, following a rebound of Jake DeBrusk's shot after Charlie McAvoy kept it in at the point.

Though neither side converted in the first, the Bruins had a golden chance only 1:10 in as DeBrusk struck the left post on a short-handed breakaway.

Anaheim recorded only one shot on goal over the final eight minutes of the opening frame while holding Boston to one of its own more than halfway through the scoreless second.

Gibson made a point-blank stop on Kevin Shattenkirk after Poitras sent a feed from behind the net with 5:20 left in the second.
