Eric Comrie made a career-high 46 saves to help the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-2 win against the host Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson, JJ Peterka and Alex Tuch scored for the Sabres.
Darnell Nurse and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored, and Stuart Skinner made 20 saves for the Oilers.
Dahlin got Buffalo on the board first with a power-play goal at 4:00 of the first period. After center Casey Mittelstadt won the faceoff, Dahlin took the loose puck to the high slot for his third goal of the season and the 1-0 lead. With the tally, the 22-year-old became the second defenseman in Sabres history to score in each of the team's first three games.
The Oilers quickly responded. With the teams playing 4-on-4, Leon Draisaitl fed defenseman Nurse in the slot to tie it 1-1 at 4:23.
Comrie had to be sharp in the first as Edmonton outshot Buffalo 15-7.
But the visitors found another level in the second period.
Thompson netted his first goal of the year with a highlight-reel effort to put the Sabres ahead 2-1 just 44 seconds into the period. After taking a pass from Jeff Skinner just outside the Edmonton blue line, Thompson evaded Draisaitl and Nurse at the top of the right circle. He skated around them as they followed him to the slot and then to the front of the net, before he slid the puck into the right side of the net.
Peterka pushed it to 3-1 at 5:15 when Vinnie Hinostroza spotted him at the Oilers' blue line and fed him for a breakaway -- the 20-year-old's second goal and third point in three games.
Buffalo held a 10-1 shot advantage through the first seven minutes of the second period.
The Oilers had the Sabres on their heels for much of the period, forcing Comrie into several stops in tight while outshooting them 23-5.
They finally converted at 18:27. With Skinner pulled for the extra attacker, Nugent-Hopkins picked up a loose puck in front to narrow it to 3-2.
Tuch sealed it with an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining for the 4-2 final.
