Zach Parise scored twice Tuesday night as the visiting New York Islanders cruised to a 5-2 win over the Seattle Kraken.

Brock Nelson, Parise, Kyle Palmieri and Casey Cizikas all scored in the first two periods for the Islanders, who won for just the second time in six games.

Parise's empty-netter with 1:58 left gave him his first multi-goal game since Jan. 14, 2020, when he scored twice for the Minnesota Wild against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

New York goalie Ilya Sorokin made 23 saves.

The assist on Parise's second goal went to Zdeno Chara, who played in his 1,651st career game -- tying him with Chris Chelios for the most games played by a defenseman in NHL history. Chara, who played 20:15 on Tuesday. will have a chance to break the record Thursday, when the Islanders visit the San Jose Sharks.

Yanni Gourde and Riley Sheahan scored for the Kraken, who lost their fifth straight. Seattle goalie Philipp Grubauer recorded 31 saves.

Nelson opened the scoring 8:53 into the first period. Parise doubled the lead with 2:41 left in the first, when Noah Dobson's shot glanced off Parise's skate as he was pushed into Grubauer by Kraken defenseman Mark Giordano. Officials initially ruled goalie interference on Parise, but the call was overturned upon an Islanders challenge.

Parise recorded the assist 5:34 into the second, when he caught up to a loose puck deep in the Kraken zone and dished into the crease to Palmieri, who scored from point-blank range.

Cizikas extended the lead to 4-0 just 4:59 later, when he pounced on Scott Mayfield's pass off the back boards and poked a shot past a sprawling Grubauer.

Gourde, who scored the only goal for the eventual champion Tampa Bay Lightning against the Islanders in the decisive Game 7 of an NHL semifinal series last June, began the Kraken's comeback attempt when he collected a loose puck after a faceoff and scored with 8:42 left in the second.

The Kraken scored an unassisted goal 1:35 into the third. Dobson attempted to clear the puck with a pass off the back boards, but the puck took a quirky carom and hit the post before Sheahan backhanded a shot past Sorokin.
