William Carrier, Brett Howden and Alex Pietrangelo also scored for Vegas, which improved to 4-0-0 all-time at Ottawa.

Brady Tkachuk scored for Ottawa, which lost for the sixth time in seven games. Filip Gustavsson finished with 34 saves.

Following a scoreless first period that saw the Senators finish with a 16-11 edge in shots on goal, the Golden Knights built a 3-0 lead in the first 12:25 of the second period.

Carrier started the scoring with his second goal of the season. He trickled a wrist shot off a cross-ice pass from Evgenii Dadonov from the right side of the net.

Howden made it 2-0 with his first goal as a Golden Knight and 17th of his career, shoveling a pass from Shea Theodore past Gustavsson's blocker side and into the top left corner of the goal.

Marchessault followed 64 seconds later to make it 3-0, backhanding in a chip pass from Nicolas Roy into a wide-open right side of the net to cap a three-goal outburst in 7:54. It was the 300th point of Marchessault's career.

Ottawa cut it to 3-1 at the 15:50 mark of the second period when Tkachuk redirected Artem Zub's shot from the right point past Lehner's blocker side. It was Tkachuk's second goal of the season.

Pietrangelo extended Vegas' lead to 4-1 with 5:59 left in the third period, firing a shot from the right point that changed direction off Ottawa forward Nick Paul and went under Gustavsson's glove.

The Senators pulled Gustavsson for an extra attacker with 4:10 left, and Marchessault scored an empty-netter 80 seconds later to seal the win for Vegas. It was his fourth goal of the season.
