Dylan Larkin scored with 5.1 seconds remaining in overtime as the host Detroit Red Wings snapped the New York Rangers' four-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory on Friday.

Larkin tapped a backhanded pass from Andreas Athanasiou over Henrik Lundqvist's shoulder for his team-high seventh goal. Athanasiou scored the tying goal late in regulation as Detroit wiped out a 2-0 deficit.

Justin Abdelkader had the other Wings goal. Jimmy Howard made 28 saves.

Kevin Shattenkirk and Neal Pionk scored for New York, who also received 28 saves from Lundqvist.

All but one of the last six meetings between the Original Six teams were decided in overtime or a shootout.

After a scoreless first period, the Wings' Michael Rasmussen had a potential goal waved off early in the second period due a hand pass call.

Detroit was awarded its first power play during the period but could not break through. Lundqvist's glove save on Mike Green highlighted that sequence.

A double minor penalty allowed New York to gain a 2-0 advantage late in the period.

The Rangers were given a four-minute power play when Jacob de la Rose was whistled for high stick that drew blood against the Rangers' Kevin Hayes.

New York cashed in with 2:07 left in the period when Shattenkirk blasted a shot from the left side past a screened Howard. Tony DeAngelo and Hayes had the assists on the play.

Pionk scored on the second power-play opportunity with a shot from the point that deflected off a skate. Pavel Buchnevich and Mika Zibanejad were credited with assists.

A Gustav Nyquist steal in the Rangers' zone allowed the Wings to get on the board early in the third. Nyquist skated into the right circle and found Abdelkader heading toward the net. Abdelkader then buried his third goal in four games.

The Wings kept the pressure on, and Athanasiou snuck behind the defense and slipped a backhander past Lundqvist with 2:02 remaining.

Seconds later, Buchnevich went to the box for slashing Larkin, but the Rangers killed off the penalty.
