Bruins 3, Devils 2 (OT): Ryan Spooner scored his first career NHL goal 2:46 into overtime as visiting Boston strengthened its hold on the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Bruins skated in on a 4-on-2 rush before rookie David Pastrnak set up Spooner, who wired a shot from the left circle that sailed past Cory Schneider (31 saves) and under the crossbar to end the contest. The victory allowed Boston to move four points ahead of idle Florida for the final postseason berth.

Daniel Paille scored in his second straight contest after a 36-game goal drought and Pastrnak also tallied for the Bruins, who won all three games versus New Jersey this season and 15 of their last 18 meetings. Niklas Svedberg made 29 saves and added an assist en route to his first victory since stopping all 14 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over the Devils on Jan. 8.

Travis Zajac scored a power-play goal and Jordin Tootoo also tallied for New Jersey, which dropped the final two contests on its six-game homestand (4-1-1). Tootoo's tally was assisted by Mike Cammalleri, allowing both to extend their respective point streaks to five games.

Loui Eriksson intercepted Devils defenseman Adam Larsson's pass and promptly wired a sharp feed from the left circle to the right doorstep for Paille, whose one-timer beat Schneider to open the scoring 8:39 into the game. Pastrnak followed his own shot at 1:40 of the third, but Zajac scored from the left doorstep at 5:57 and Tootoo made Boston defenseman Dougie Hamilton pay for a turnover by converting from the right circle 2:09 later to forge a 2-2 tie.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston recalled Jeremy Smith from Providence of the American Hockey League to serve as Svedberg's backup after fellow G Tuukka Rask sat out due to an illness. ... Cammalleri has recorded five goals and two assists on his point streak while Tootoo has scored two tallies and set up three others. ... Bruins C Patrice Bergeron won 12-of-18 faceoffs.
