Blues 3, Avalanche 0: Martin Brodeur register his NHL-best 125th career shutout as host St. Louis halted its season-high four-game losing streak.

Brodeur turned aside 16 shots to earn his league-record 691st victory as the Blues avenged a 5-0 loss at Colorado on Tuesday. Vladimir Tarasenko set a career high with his 22nd goal while Dmitrij Jaskin and defenseman Chris Butler scored second-period goals for St. Louis.

Paul Stastny collected a pair of assists against his former team as the Blues sent the Avalanche to their second straight loss following a three-game winning streak. Semyon Varlamov made 22 saves in defeat.

Jaskin provided Brodeur with the only goal he would need 28 seconds into the middle session, sliding the puck between the pads of Varlamov. Butler, who grew up in St. Louis, scored his first goal as a member of the Blues four minutes later, driving to the net from the left-wing boards and lifting a backhander past Varlamov.

Brodeur, whose future is uncertain with the impending return of starter Brian Elliott, faced just eight shots over the final two periods. Tarasenko provided insurance for the future Hall-of-Famer by converting from the high slot with 4:35 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Brodeur registered his first shutout since blanking Tampa Bay 3-0 on Dec. 14, 2013 as a member of the New Jersey Devils, while Butler notched his first goal since Dec. 12, 2013 while with Calgary. ... Blues LW Chris Porter is expected to be sidelined at least six weeks with an injury to his lower left leg after getting tangled up with Colorado D Nick Holden. Coach Ken Hitchcock said Porter will be re-evaluated in six weeks. ... The Blues placed LW Magnus Paajarvi on waivers Monday and also assigned D Petteri Lindbohm to Chicago of the American Hockey League.
