Sharks 5, Stars 3: Defenseman Brent Burns scored twice during a four-goal barrage in the third period as San Jose rallied from two down for a victory in the opener of its seven-game road trip.

Patrick Marleau and James Sheppard each recorded a goal and an assist while Joe Thornton added an empty-net tally for the Sharks, who improved to 6-2-2 on the road. Logan Couture collected three assists, Tomas Hertl notched two and Alex Stalock turned aside 37 shots, including all 16 he faced in the third period.

Tyler Seguin registered his sixth career hat trick – and second this season – in a losing effort as the Stars' winless streak reached seven games (0-5-2). Backup Anders Lindback made 24 saves in losing for the third time in as many starts for Dallas, which fell to 1-3-4 at home this season.

Defenseman Sergei Gonchar’s shot went in off Seguin’s shoulder 8:03 into the contest to open the scoring. Seguin made it 2-0 by whipping a rolling puck past a screened Stalock on the glove side 2:23 later, but the Sharks halved the deficit when Sheppard popped in a rebound at 17:14.

Seguin completed his hat trick with 4:32 left in the second session, knocking home a rebound during a power play for a 3-1 lead. Marleau buried a rebound while on the man advantage 3:51 into the third, Burns tied it at 6:38 during an odd-man rush and put the Sharks ahead 3:45 later with a shot from the right faceoff circle after a long rebound.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dallas C Jason Spezza reached 700 career points with an assist in his 700th NHL garme. … Thornton’s goal gave him 1,206 career points, moving him past former Sharks C Vincent Damphousse and into 44th place on the all-time list. … The Sharks went 1-for-2 on the power play and have converted six times in 17 opportunities over their last six games.
