Oilers 6, Hurricanes 3: Leon Draisaitl's first career NHL goal with 7:05 remaining in the third period stood as the game winner as host Edmonton won its third game in a row.

Jordan Eberle scored twice and added an assist while Jesse Joensuu, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Matt Hendricks also tallied for the Oilers, who won three straight just twice all of last season. Ben Scrivens preserved the victory with a 27-save performance.

Riley Nash, Jeff Skinner and defenseman Jay Harrison countered for the Hurricanes, who are winless in a franchise-record seven straight games to open the season (0-5-2). Anton Khudobin made 23 stops as Carolina surrendered 11 goals in back-to-back losses in Alberta.

Eberle finally broke a scoreless deadlock near the midway point of the second period, streaking toward the net and slapping a perfectly placed Taylor Hall feed just inside the left post. Joensuu restored the Edmonton lead just 1:38 after Riley Nash had drawn the Hurricanes even, but Skinner squared the contest with 2:02 remaining in the frame - eluding a stick check and whipping a wrist shot past a fooled Scrivens for his first point of the season.

Eberle's second of the night - an unassisted power-play tally - gave the Oilers their third lead at 4:26 of the third, but Harrison brought Carolina back at 7:50 as his wrist shot from above the right circle got past an out-of-position Scrivens on the blocker side. That set the stage for Draisaitl, who jousted a backhand past a fallen Khudobin after his initial shot was stopped.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Carolina has lost five of its last six games in Edmonton dating back to the 2006 Stanley Cup final encounter. ... Eberle came into the night with just three assists in his first six games. ... The Oilers went 1-of-4 on the power play while Carolina failed to convert its only man-advantage opportunity.
