Sharks 4, Ducks 3 (SO): Joe Pavelski scored the lone goal of the shootout as San Jose completed a perfect five-game homestand.
Patrick Marleau recorded a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who swept a homestand of more than four games for the first time in franchise history. Logan Couture and Martin Havlat also scored while Antti Niemi turned aside 28 shots.
Corey Perry and defensemen Alex Grant and Ben Lovejoy tallied for Anaheim, which fell to 1-3 in shootouts this season. Nick Bonino notched a pair of assists and Jonas Hiller made 32 saves.
After squandering a two-goal lead in the third period and failing to cash in on a power play in overtime, San Jose gained the advantage in the bonus format when Pavelski beat Hiller from the hash marks in the second round. Niemi made the goal stand, denying Perry's five-hole attempt and gloving Kyle Palmieri's shot on Anaheim's final attempt.
Perry opened the scoring at 5:56 of the first period, taking a pass at the blue line after coming off the bench and beating Niemi from the left faceoff circle during a breakaway. San Jose pulled even 4:16 into the second as Couture deflected defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic's shot from the left point just inside the left post.
A gaffe by Hiller midway through the second led to a short-handed tally by Marleau that gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead. The netminder raced out of his crease to play the puck along the left-wing boards but made an errant pass into the middle of the ice.
Marleau grabbed the puck and dished it to captain Joe Thornton, who made a quick return pass that Marleau fired into the vacant net for his 12th of the season. Havlat made it 3-1 with 57 seconds remaining in the session, but Grant scored in his NHL debut at 12:50 of the third and Lovejoy buried a wrist shot from above the left circle following a faceoff win with 3:06 left to knot the contest.
GAME NOTEBOOK: San Jose, which improved to 10-1-2 at home, moved one point ahead of the Ducks for first place in the Pacific Division. ... The Sharks improved to 12-0-1 with RW Brent Burns in the lineup. ... Thornton's assist was the 812th of his career, tying him with Pierre Turgeon for 29th place on the all-time list. The captain is now five points behind Michel Goulet (1,152) for 49th in NHL history.
