Flyers 5, Senators 2: Defenseman Kimmo Timonen and Wayne Simmonds scored 23 seconds apart midway into the third period as host Philadelphia improved to 4-0-1 in its last five games.
Captain Claude Giroux scored a power-play goal and Sean Couturier netted his first of the season for the Flyers, who defeated Ottawa for the second time in eight days. Adam Hall added an empty-net goal, Timonen notched a pair of assists and Steve Mason turned aside 32 shots.
Clarke MacArthur and Kyle Turris each scored a power-play goal for the Senators, who have dropped three straight to Philadelphia and three of their last four games overall.
Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann preserved a 2-2 deadlock midway into the third after he blocked Turris' point-blank shot with both of his skates in the goal crease. Timonen snapped the tie after skating in from the left corner before backhanding the puck past Robin Lehner (37 saves) at 11:30 and Simmonds doubled the advantage after turning and firing in the slot for his third goal.
After Couturier's sharp-angle shot from along the goal line gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead at 5:18 of the second period, MacArthur trimmed the deficit nearly three minutes later. MacArthur used Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn as a screen before wiring a shot from the left circle past Mason on Ottawa's fourth power-play chance. Turris knotted it up 3:12 into the third after backhanding a rebound of defenseman Marc Methot's shot past a prone Mason.
GAME NOTEBOOK: After scoring two power-play goals en route to a 5-0 triumph over Ottawa on Nov. 12, Philadelphia picked up where it left off on its first opportunity with the man advantage. The Flyers opened the scoring with 2:16 remaining in the first period after brilliantly cycling the puck behind the net before RW Jakub Voracek fed Giroux, who beat Lehner from the left circle. ... Voracek, who scored twice last week against the Senators, extended his point streak to five games. ... After going 1-for-4 on the power play, Philadelphia is 5-for-12 in its last four contests. Conversely, Ottawa has yielded six power-play goals in the last four games.
