Ducks 3, Red Wings 1: Teemu Selanne scored his 42nd career postseason goal to snap a tie early in the third period as second-seeded Anaheim claimed Game 1 of its Western Conference first-round series with visiting Detroit.

Nick Bonino also scored on the power play and defenseman Francois Beauchemin sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Jonas Hiller turned aside 21 shots for the Pacific Division champion Ducks, who host the seventh-seeded Red Wings in Game 2 on Thursday.

Dan Cleary scored with the man advantage and Jimmy Howard finished with 24 saves for Detroit, which won its final four regular-season games to secure its 22nd consecutive playoff appearance.

Selanne made the Red Wings pay after defenseman Jakub Kindl's delay-of-game penalty late in the second period extended into the third. The veteran's one-timer from a sharp angle in the left faceoff circle handcuffed Howard and went just inside the left post to give Anaheim a 2-1 lead 89 seconds into the session.

With Corey Perry providing a screen, Bonino recorded his first career postseason goal by redirecting defenseman Cam Fowler's shot from the point at 10:24 of the first period. Detroit answered nearly six minutes later - and one second after a 5-on-3 power-play expired - as Kindl's shot deflected off Cleary and past Hiller.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Perry's bid to snap a 1-1 deadlock with 6:59 remaining in the second period resulted in goaltender interference after his leg brushed Howard upside the head. Howard sprawled back into his net but remained in the game. ... Anaheim has scored a power-play goal in 15 consecutive postseason games. ... The Red Wings have enjoyed success with the man advantage against the Ducks. Detroit scored on the power play in all three of its regular-season meetings with Anaheim. ... Ducks D Luca Sbisa sat out with a lower-body injury.
