Senators 3, Rangers 2: Rookie Jakob Silfverberg snapped a tie with 4:41 remaining in the third period as visiting Ottawa ended a four-game winless streak (0-2-2).

Zack Smith tallied for the second straight contest and rookie defenseman Patrick Wiercioch netted a power-play goal. Veteran blue-liner Sergei Gonchar notched a pair of assists and Robin Lehner turned aside 33 shots for the Senators, who improved to 12-1-1 in their last 14 regular-season contests at Madison Square Garden.

Rick Nash extended his goal-scoring and point streaks to five and nine games, respectively. Brad Richards returned from a two-game absence to snap a 16-game goalless drought and Henrik Lundqvist finished with 36 saves for the Rangers, who saw their season-high four-game winning streak come to an end.

With the game tied at 2-2, rookie defenseman Eric Gryba unleashed a hard rising shot from the right faceoff circle which Lundqvist denied. Silfverberg alertly pounced on the rebound and wristed the puck past his fellow Swede for his fourth goal of the season.

After Wiercioch's wrist shot from the point gave Ottawa a 2-0 lead at 10:50 of the first period, Nash answered 13 seconds later by wiring a shot which caromed off the stick of Gryba and past Lehner. Richards forged a 2-2 tie with 2:21 left in the session as his shot from the left circle sailed over the glove of Lehner.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nash scored for the ninth time this season - but first outside of the third period. The top-line forward has seven goals and eight assists during his point streak. ... Senators D Marc Methot registered four shots on goal in his 300th career NHL game. ... Ottawa rookie LW Dave Dziurzynski sat out with the concussion he sustained following a brutal fight with Toronto's Frazer McLaren on Wednesday.
