Maple Leafs 3, Senators 0: Ben Scrivens recorded his first career shutout by turning aside all 34 shots he faced to make fourth-liner Frazer McLaren's first-period goal stand up as host Toronto won the latest installment of the Battle of Ontario.
Tyler Bozak scored his third goal in five games and defenseman John-Michael Liles added an empty-net tally for the Maple Leafs, who have won five of their last six contests.
Craig Anderson finished with 25 saves for the Senators, who struggled in their first game without Erik Karlsson. The reigning Norris Trophy winner sustained a severed left Achilles' tendon in Wednesday's loss to Pittsburgh, ending his season.
Making his 19th career appearance, the 26-year-old Scrivens kept the Senators on edge, highlighting a strong effort by stopping 19 shots in the second period.
McLaren opened the scoring just 3:14 into the first period. Toronto took advantage of a giveaway by defenseman Eric Gryba, who was just called up from Binghamton of the American Hockey League. McLaren used a screen by Mike Brown to snap a shot from the point past Anderson.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Bozak doubled the advantage 8 1/2 minutes into the third period by redirecting a shot from the slot before Liles capped the scoring with a shot from center ice. ... McLaren scored his only other career goal as a member of San Jose in 2009-10. He found the net in the Sharks' 4-2 victory over Vancouver on Nov. 29, 2009. ... Toronto honored the 1963 Stanley Cup-winning team prior to the contest.
