Canadiens 2, Senators 1: Carey Price made 32 saves to earn his second win in as many days and Erik Cole scored midway through the first period as Montreal evened its season series against visiting Ottawa.

David Desharnais scored for the third time this weekend for the Canadiens, who cruised to a 6-1 victory over Buffalo on Saturday.

Rookie Jakob Silfverberg opened the scoring 1:38 into the game with a power-play goal. Craig Anderson stopped 30 shots for the Senators, who posted a 5-1 home triumph over Montreal on Wednesday.

Silfverberg split the defense and beat Price on a breakaway with the man advantage, but Desharnais tied the game 35 seconds later after tipping a shot from Max Pacioretty between Anderson’s pads.

Cole flipped a backhand over Anderson from the top of the crease to give Montreal the lead and Price shut the door the rest of the way for his sixth win of the season. He stopped 16 shots in the second period and 11 in the third.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pacioretty rejoined the Canadiens' roster eight days after undergoing an emergency appendectomy, recording an assist and three hits and finishing plus-2. He was expected to miss three-to-four weeks. … Ottawa D Erik Karlsson, who won the Norris Trophy last season, was held without a point and has two assists in his last five games. … Canadiens D P.K. Subban set up Cole’s winner and has two assists in his first two games of the season.
