BLACKHAWKS 2, RED WINGS 1:
Marcus Kruger snapped a tie 1:53 into the third period and rookie Jimmy Hayes recorded a goal and an assist as host Chicago extended its winning streak to four games while ending Detroit's six-game run.

Corey Crawford made 31 saves for the Blackhawks, who have won seven of eight at home.

Both clubs were without a key member for the Central Division battle. Chicago captain Jonathan Toews was out with an upper-body injury, while Red Wings All-Star Pavel Datsyuk underwent minor knee surgery earlier in the day and will miss 2-to-3 weeks.

Less than two minutes into the third, Hayes carried the puck around the net and backhanded it into the slot from the right side. Andrew Brunette's shot slid through the crease, and Kruger tucked it in at the right post for his seventh goal of the season.

Detroit took an early lead as Valtteri Filppula beat Crawford during a power play with a snap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle at 2:22.

Hayes forged a tie less than eight minutes into the second period when he knocked in a rebound in the crease for his fifth tally.

Jimmy Howard returned from a broken finger to stop 27 shots for the Red Wings, who have lost three straight on the road and fell to 15-16-1 away from home this season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago's winning streak has come after it lost nine games in a row. ... The Blackhawks improved to 21-6-4 at home. ... The Red Wings had won six straight meetings with divisional opponents. ... Detroit goaltender Ty Conklin cleared waivers Tuesday and was assigned to Grand Rapids of the AHL. ... The Red Wings re-acquired defenseman Kyle Quincey from Tampa Bay via Colorado in a three-team trade. Quincey, who played 13 games with Detroit from 2005-08, could be in the lineup Thursday against Vancouver.
