Brad Richards netted a power-play goal and added two assists and Kari Lehtonen turned aside 25 shots as the Dallas Stars spoiled the return of Mike Modano to the American Airlines Center with a 4-1 triumph over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.

The top overall pick by the then-Minnesota North Stars in the 1988 draft, Modano received a standing ovation on Thursday. The 40-year-old Modano is the all-time leader in goals (558) and points (1,360) by an American-born player.

Captain Brenden Morrow scored his fourth goal of the season and Loui Eriksson added his third for Dallas (3-0-0), which posted three straight victories to start the season for the first time since winning five in a row in 2006.

James Neal had a goal and an assist and Mike Ribeiro notched two assists for the Stars.

Niklas Kronwall collected a power-play goal and Chris Osgood finished with 11 saves for Detroit (2-1-1).

The Red Wings also saw Johan Franzen leave the game in the first period after taking a hit to the head in the first period. He did not return to the contest.
