Jordan Staal scored the go-ahead goal 45 seconds into what became a three-goal third period for the Carolina Hurricanes in a 5-2 victory against the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night in Raleigh, N.C.

Jesper Fast and Nino Niederreiter added goals in the final period as the Hurricanes won their fourth game in a row. Andrei Svechnikov and Martin Necas also scored for Carolina.

Hurricanes goalie Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 33 shots.

Detroit's goals were both scored by Filip Zadina for his second and third goals of the season. Red Wings goalie Jonathan Bernier made 27 saves.

The Hurricanes, who registered 14 of their shots in the third period, opened a four-game homestand by playing in front of fans -- other than a few dozen family and friends -- at PNC Arena for the first time this season after state capacity restrictions were loosened last week.

Carolina's four-game winning streak has been accomplished in a six-day period. The Red Wings have lost three straight games.

Staal also had two assists as the teams met for the first time since splitting the opening two games of the season in January at Detroit. Dougie Hamilton posted two assists for Carolina and Niederreiter, Necas and Fast all added an assist.

The game marked the first on-ice NHL meeting between brothers Evgeny Svechnikov of the Red Wings and Alexei Svechnikov of the Hurricanes. The Detroit player appeared in his fourth game of the season. Both players had an assist.

It was Nedeljkovic's first home outing since posting his first career shutout Feb. 20 against Tampa Bay. He stopped 10 of 11 shots in the first period.

The Hurricanes are 7-1-1 on home ice.

Captain Dylan Larkin of the Red Wings missed his fourth consecutive game with an upper-body injury. The center is Detroit's second-leading scorer with 11 points this season.

The Hurricanes had winger Teuvo Teravainen back after a seven-game absence because of a concussion. He logged more than 14 minutes of ice time.
